Sunday, November 30, 2014       Stabbing Investigation Update – Homicide Arrest C14-254872 As previously released, on November 29, 2014 after 2:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of La Verendrye Street for the report of a stabbing.   A 31-year-old male was located and found to be suffering from an apparent stab wound in the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.   The victim has been identified as Victor Cory HARDISTY of Winnipeg.   Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continued to investigate with the assistance of members from the Forensic Identification Section.   The investigation has revealed that the victim had arrived at the residence shortly before the incident occurred.  A drinking party commenced which resulted in an argument a few hours later between the victim and suspect. The dispute escalated to the point where the suspect produced a weapon and stabbed the victim. The suspect fled the residence and police were summoned.   On November 29, 2014 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Elvis Marcel MCKAY, 38 years of Winnipeg was arrested at a residence on Manitoba Avenue. Saturday, November 29, 2014   Commercial Robbery Arrest – C14-250323 Between November 19 & 28, 2014 the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of several commercial robberies.  They include:   November 19 – 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue November 21 – 800 block of Arlington Avenue November 23 – 1300 block of Main Street November 23 – 1000 block of McPhillips Street November 23 – 1300 block of Main Street November 24 – 700 block of Mountain Avenue November 24 – 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue November 25 – 700 block of Mountain Avenue November 25 – 1100 block of Main Street November 25 – 1800 block of Main Street November 26 – 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue November 26 – 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue November 28 – 300 block of McPhillips Street   The crimes spree resulted in the suspect obtaining cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets.  No one was injured during any of the incidents. Friday, November 28, 2014     Update - Serious Motor Vehicle Collision – Male Wanted - C14-229022 As previously released - On October 26, 2014 at approximately 2:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Marbury Road and Mapleglen Drive.   The investigation revealed that the occupants of two vehicles became involved in dispute, possibly due to manner of driving.   At one point, the occupants of a black, Infiniti G35 stopped in the area and a 31 year-old male passenger exited the vehicle in attempt to speak with the other driver. Thursday, November 27, 2014   Commercial Robbery – C14-253021 On November 26, 2014 at approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 1500 block of Logan Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery.   Officers learned that a male, with his identity concealed and armed with a weapon, had entered the store.  He demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash after which he stole merchandise and then fled on foot.   No one was injured during the incident.   The suspect is described as: 18-20 years of age, 5'9"–6'1" tall with a skinny build.  He spoke in a high pitched tone.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).     Commercial Robbery – C14-253136 On November 26, 2014 shortly before 9:30 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a commercial robbery that had occurred in the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue.   It was learned that a male, armed with a weapon, had entered the store.  He demanded money from the employee, however fled prior to obtaining any when a customer entered the store.  The suspect then attended to a second business within the same building and again demanded money.  The employee ran to an office where he observed the suspect to steal merchandise and then flee on foot.   No one was injured during the incident.   The suspect is described as: Caucasian, 20-40 years of age, 5'4"–5'6" tall with a slim to medium build.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Tuesday, November 25, 2014       Update - Missing Person – Colten PRATT - R14-82271   The Winnipeg Police Service is again requesting the public's assistance in locating 26 year-old, Colten PRATT. As previously noted, PRATT was last seen in the downtown area of Winnipeg on Thursday, November 6, 2014.    PRATT is described as an Aboriginal male, 5'10" tall, approximately 160 pounds, thin build, short brown hair and brown eyes. PRATT was last seen wearing a brown plaid jacket and blue jeans.   New information has come to light that PRATT may have been at the Regal Beagle Bar located at the Malborough Inn, 331 Smith Street, on the evening of Thursday, November 6, 2014, with an unidentified female. The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in identifying this potential witness.      Unknown female with Colten PRATT   Police are concerned his well-being and are asking anyone with information to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.   Public Advisory- Increase In Thefts From Vehicles   Recently, East District members (District 4) have received an increase in reports regarding thefts from vehicles parked in personal driveways.    One of the common things stolen is the garage door remote, which the suspects then use to enter the garage and or residence and steal further items.   Regardless of where you reside in the city, please consider the following break-in prevention tips:  1. Keep your car visible Avoid having your vehicle concealed by larger vehicles, fences or foliage; thieves like to work in private. 2. Don't make it easy Keep windows closed and doors locked. Many thefts from vehicles are as a result of unlocked vehicles. 3. Vehicle alarm? Don't forget to activate it. 4. Hide your valuables Many smash-and-grab thieves act on impulse. So keep your stuff out of sight – either with you or in a locked trunk. Don't count on the glove box; thieves know to look there, and they're easy to break into. And please remember, please don't leave you garage door remote inside your vehicle.   Grow Operation Arrest – R14-81525 On November 24, 2014, members of the Marihuana Grow Operation Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Patrol members executed a Control Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a location in the 1300 block of Main Street. A search of the premises revealed the following: 261 Marihuana plants – valued at $292,320.00 194 grams of dry marihuana – valued at $1,940.00 Grow operation equipment – valued at $14,000.00 A 55 year-old female was arrested. She is facing the following charges: Produce a Scheduled Substance – Marihuana Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marihuana She was released on a Promise to Appear.   Commercial Robbery – C14-251597 On November 25, 2014 at approximately 4:15 p.m., three suspects entered a cellular business located in the 2600 block of Portage Avenue. While there, one of the suspects began a conversation with staff about purchasing an IPhone 6. After the female suspect indicated that she wanted to make a purchase, the employee went to the back of the store to retrieve a phone. As she turned around with the phone, three suspects confronted her, one of which was armed. The suspects demanded the phones and eventually fled with a large quantity. Stolen – 25 x IPhone 6 (various colours – Gold, Silver& Grey) and Samsung Note 4 The suspects are described as:   Suspect 1 – Male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 23 years-old, 5'7" tall, thin build and short black straight hair Suspect 2 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, early 20's, skinny build and straight black hair in a ponytail Suspect 3 – Male, Aboriginal in appearance, early 20's, 5'7" tall and thin build The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident or if approached to purchase a phone as described, please contact investigators immediately at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).     Vehicle Robbery – C14-249620 On November 22, 2014 at approximately 3:30 a.m., a taxi cab driver stopped at a gas station in the area of McPhillips Street and Selkirk Avenue. After getting fuel, the driver observed two unknown females get into his cab and attempt to drive off. The driver reached into the vehicle in attempt to stop the theft however, he was thrown from the vehicle. He sustained minor injuries. As the suspects drove off, they struck one of the gas pump barriers. The suspects also struck a parked vehicle in the rear lane of the 800 block of Selkirk Avenue. It was at this time the suspects abandoned the stolen taxi and fled the area on foot. The suspects are described as: females, 18-20 years-old, 5'4" tall, 150 pounds. The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
