Monday, April 20, 2015       Homicide Investigation C15-78278 On April 20th, 2015 at 12:40 a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of the Highfield Street and Chandos Avenue for the report of a Shots call.   An adult male was located in vicinity suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating. Sunday, April 19, 2015         Update - Homicide Investigation C15-76860 As previously released - On April 17, 2015 at 10:50 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue for the report of a stabbing.   Patrol members located 27-year-old, Godfrey Virgil HAYDEN with serious injuries. HAYDEN was pronounced deceased a short time later.   Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continue to investigate.   Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).     Assault with a Weapon Arrests – C15-77622 On April 18, 2015 at 11:30 p.m., several people were present at a house party located in the 300 block of Flora Avenue.   Two of the occupants known to each another became involved in an argument which escalated into a physical confrontation. The fight eventually broke up however it erupted again outside the residence.   As a result, two 30-year-old males were assaulted and stabbed. One of the victims was transported in critical condition. Saturday, April 18, 2015         Homicide Investigation C15-76860 On April 17, 2015 at 10:50 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue for the report of a stabbing.   Patrol members located a male with serious injuries at which time first aid was provided until Paramedics arrived. An adult male victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.   Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continue to investigate. Interviews are on-going and an autopsy is pending to confirm cause of death.   Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).     Sexual Assault Investigation C15-76715 On April 17, 2015 just after 6:30 p.m., a 20-year-old female was walking in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Isabel Street when an unknown male walked passed her. The male made a brief comment and then suddenly grabbed the victim's arm and purse.   The victim attempted to break free, however the suspect became more aggressive and a serious sexual assault occurred.   A motorist observed the confrontation and began yelling out. The suspect fled and victim made her way home and contacted police.   The suspect is described as: East Indian in appearance, mid 30's, 6'00" tall, large build, full beard, wearing: a white base-ball cap with a red logo on front, a dirty/torn t-shirt and white cargo shorts.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Friday, April 17, 2015         Court Order Violation Arrest – C15-75497 On April 16, 2015 at approximately 3:35 a.m., West District Patrol members were travelling in the area of Carpathia Road and Corydon Avenue when a male on bicycle was observed.   Officers proceeded to conduct a spot check on the suspicious male travelling at this late hour in the River Height area.  He was identified and it was determined that he was breaching conditions related to curfew.   Dalton LAPORTE, 20 years-old was arrested and charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:   Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance x 2   He was remanded into custody.   West District member's commitment to address on-going concerns related to criminal activity in the River Heights area, including all others, continues. Working with community members with an emphasis on proactive policing is essential to our success.           Fraud Arrest – R14-77786 In October 2014 members of the Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Crime Unit entered into a fraud investigation involving a lunch program at a school in the River East Transcona School Division.   The program committee discovered inconsistences regarding the allocation of lunch program funds which resulted in their own initial investigation. Once completed, police were subsequently notified.   The investigation has determined that an employee identified as the Treasurer of the lunch program had been fraudulently withdrawing money for her own personal use between December 2013 and October 2014. The total amount stolen is estimated at over $24,000.00.   On April 16, 2015, a 39-year-old female was arrested. She is facing the following charges:   Theft Over $5000.00 Fraud Over $5000.00   She was released on a Promise to Appear.     Indecent Act - C15-75714 On April 16, 2015 at 11:50 a.m., a 26-year-old female and her young child were walking in the area of Dalton Street and Church Avenue when they observed a masked male exposing himself while standing between two residences.   After being noticed by the victims, the male pulled-up his pants and left the area. The victims ran home and notified police. No contact was made and no injuries were reported.   The suspect is described as follows:   Male, fair complexion, in his late 20's early 30's, very tall, medium build, dark hair and wearing a green jacket/hood up, jeans and a black mask or bandana covering his face.   The suspect was also observed riding an older, thin framed 10 speed bike.   The investigation is continuing by members of Division 13 Crime Unit. Thursday, April 16, 2015         Update - Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Public Assistance Required – C15-69235 As previously released - On April 7, 2015 at approximately 11:00 p.m., police and paramedics responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of McPhillips Street and Jefferson Avenue.   It has been determined that a male pedestrian made his way into traffic in an eastbound direction and was struck by a northbound pick-up truck.   The male was pronounced deceased and his identify confirmed.   Further details suggest that motorists may have had to take action in order to avoid striking the victim prior to the collision.
