Thursday, November 19, 2015            Homicide Investigation – Charge Upgraded to 1st Degree Murder - C15-122356 As previously released -On June 12, 2015 at approximately 5:35 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the banks of the Red River in the area of Lombard Avenue and Waterfront Drive regarding a body located.     It was determined that an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service member located the deceased near the water's edge.     The deceased male has been identified as 49-year-old, Jason Stinson of Beausejour, Manitoba.It has been determined that STINSON was shot while in the area of the banks of the Red River near Lombard Avenue and Waterfront Drive (Steven Juba Park) during daytime hours on Friday June 12th.     The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit who were able to identify a suspect and on the afternoon of June 25th investigators located and arrested Steven Anthony MORRISSEAU, 29 years of Winnipeg for his alleged involvement.     Initially, MORRISSEAUwas charged with 2nd Degree Murder. After further investigation, a charge of 1st Degree Murder has been authorized. On November 18, 2015, MORRISSEAU was arrested on the strength of a warrant and subsequently returned to custody.         Assault Investigation – Public Assistance Requested – C15-220118 On October 18, 2015 at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 57-year-old male was operating a Toyota Camry in the area of Daly Street North and Mulvey Avenue.     The driver was travelling southbound when he completed a U-turn at Mulvey Avenue. While doing so, no other vehicles were observed and he proceeded northbound towards Corydon Avenue.     It was at this time a group of nearly 10 males operating sport bike motorcycles surrounded his vehicle. One of the suspects began kicking at his door while another attempted to gain entry. The door of the vehicle was eventually opened and the victim was physically assaulted to the upper body causing serious injury.     Information suggests that the motorcycles may have been speeding causing them to quickly catch up and nearly hit the Camry after the U-turn was completed. This may have caused a near motor vehicle collision and appears to have been the cause of the altercation.     No arrests have been made at this time. Wednesday, November 18, 2015   Poppy Box Theft Investigation – C15-232693 On November 4, 2015, the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a Poppy box theft that occurred at a business located in the 700 block of St. Anne's Road. The investigation has revealed that a male suspect entered the store at approximately 10:25 a.m. and immediately attended to the customer service counter. Staff members then asked the male if he was in need of assistance, which he indicated he was not. The suspect then grabbed the donation box and concealed it under his jacket as he fled the store. Staff attempted to follow the male however, was unable to catch up with him. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, 20-30-years-old, 5'8" tall, medium build, short light brown hair, wearing a black winter jacket, black pants, Jets scarf and black shoes.     The investigation is continuing by members of the East District Crime Unit. Assault Investigation Arrests – C15-242261 On November 17, 2015 at approximately 12:35 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a high school located in the 700 block of St. Mary's Road regarding an assault incident. It's been determined that a former and current student targeted a 15-year-old female student and physically assaulted her while inside a washroom within the school. During the assault, screaming could be heard alerting staff and students. The victim sustained minor upper body injuries. The 16-year-old former student fled the school however was located by officers a short distance away and arrested. The second suspect, a 14-year-old female was also located and arrested.    The 16-year-old has been charged with Assault and Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking x 6. She was remanded into custody.      The 14-year-old is facing the following charge: Assault. She was released on a Promise to Appear. Tuesday, November 17, 2015   Weapon Arrest – C15-241507 On November 16, 2015 at approximately 1:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 2600 block of Ness Avenue regarding a female in possession of a large knife. A group of youth from a nearby school were in the area however, a bystander managed to disarm and detain the suspect prior to police arrival. No contact was made with the group and no injuries were reported. A 14-year-old female was taken into custody and charged with the following: Possession of a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking. Tuesday, November 17, 2015             Sexual Assault Investigation – C15-241047 On November 15, 2015, members of the Winnipeg Police Service received information regarding a sexual assault that occurred involving a 25-year-old female victim.     At this early stage of the investigation, it's been reported that the victim met with 3 suspects while in the area of the 600 block of Agnes Street. The victim was driven in a white van to an unknown residence at which time a serious sexual assault occurred.     The victim was eventually taken to the area of the 1300 block Arlington Street where she made her way to a friend's place and conveyed to hospital.     The victim sustained lower body injuries due to the assault. Monday, November 16, 2015             Motor Vehicle Collision – Public Assistance Requested – C15-241340 On November 16, 2015 at approximately 9:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the 300 block of Portage Avenue regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a female pedestrian.     At this time, the investigation has revealed that a 75-year-old female was struck by a white Ford Cargo Van travelling eastbound on Portage Avenue in the median lane. Monday, November 16, 2015         Update – Homicide Investigation Arrests – C15-239789 As previously released, on November 14, 2015, shortly before 12:30 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 400 block of Stradbrook Avenue for the report of a male having been shot.     An adult male was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.     The victim has been identified as Paul Joseph THORNE, 36 years of Winnipeg.     The investigation has revealed that the victim in the company of two others attended to the rear of a business located on Stradbrook Avenue for a pre-arranged meeting where criminal activity is suspected.     The victim and his associates met up with two males at which time a dispute erupted.
