Friday, November 24, 2017   Robbery: C17-264410 On November 23, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a 27-year-old male contacted Winnipeg Police and advised that he had just been robbed. The victim he was walking in the area of Clare Avenue and Hay Street when he was approached by two males who were armed with a machete and bear spray. The males demanded the victim's personal belongings. The victim complied and the males fled. One suspect is described as Indigenous, 18 - 22 years of age, 5'5" - 5'7" with a moustache. He was dressed in a black toque, black jacket and black pants. The second suspect is described as Indigenous, 18-22 years of age, 5'7", wearing a baseball cap, black hoodie with a white stripe on the front, and blue jeans. This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).   Robbery: C17-264323 On November 23, 2017 the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted by a male who advised that he has just been robbed. At approximately 4:05 p.m., he was attempting to sell his cell phone which he advised online. He attended to a residence in the 500 block of Atlantic Avenue where the potential buyer entered his vehicle. The suspect produced a machete style knife and demanded the victim's personal property. The victim complied and fled the vehicle. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as Indigenous, 18-19 years of age, 5'9", and approximately 140 pounds with a thin build. He was acne on his face and a scruffy beard.  He was wearing a grey hoodie, black jeans and a black toque. This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Friday, November 24, 2017 Wanted - 2nd Degree Murder: C17-166069 The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is requesting the public's assistance in locating the following male: Edmond CHARTRAND, 29-years-old, of Winnipeg. He is described as Indigenous, 6', 170 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.   On July 27, 2017, at approximately 7:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue for a report of an injured male. Upon arrival, officers located both a 29-year-old male and a 31-year-old female who had been stabbed. The victims were transported to hospital in critical condition. The female was upgraded to stable condition; however, the male has succumbed to his injuries. Friday, November 24, 2017 Leave No One Behind: End Violence Against Women and Girls November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence againt Women.  Every year, the United Nations launches an awareness campaing against gender-based violence. This year's campaign runs 16 days and concludes on December 10, Human Rights Day. In response to the United Nations' call for action to raise awareness and facilitate collective action to end violence against all women and girls, the Winnipeg Police Service produced a supporting video. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in the world today. Together we can work to break the cycle of violence for good. This year, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Manitoba government is highlighting the importance of speaking out and seeking help. It is imperative we all look for signs of abuse and violence. We need to support both those who continue to suffer and those brave enough to break away. Thursday, November 23, 2017 West End Biz - New Safety Guide for Crime Prevention The Winnipeg Police Service has partnered with the West End BIZ and the Winnipeg Committee for Safety to produce the latest edition of "Partners in Prevention", a Crime Prevention & Safety Awareness Guide for Businesses & Their Employees. The guide is a hands-on educational resource providing valuable information to help prevent businesses and individuals from becoming a victim of crime. Safety Initiatives and a "Who do you call?" reference sheet of critical contact numbers is included in the guide. The guide is now available for anyone to download at no cost from the BIZ's website, Partners in Prevention. Hardcopies are available at the BIZ office - 581 Portage Avenue.    Commercial Robbery – Arrest: C17-262879 On November 21, 2017, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred at a convenience store in the 100 block of Salter Street. A male suspect threatened staff and stole a number of items. The suspect exited the store and then returned to steal additional items. The same suspect attempted to return to the store a third time, however, staff had locked the door. The suspect threatened staff and left. The suspect then went to a gas bar across the street and attempted to gain entry but was unsuccessful. The male threatened staff, and broke a window. The suspect was restrained by staff who turned him over to responding officers. At some point after leaving the first store the suspect attempted to rob a female in the area of her car, but was not successful. The victim fled the area. Aaron Jay ROSS, 25, was charged with: - Robbery x 2 - Utter Threates x 4 - Mischief Under $5,000 He was detained in custody. Tuesday, November 21, 2017   Sexual Assaults – Investigation: C17-261631   On November 20, 2017, between 7:10 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., three female victims were arriving for work in the 700 block of William Avenue when they were approached by a lone male who sexually assaulted them by means of groping.   In each case, the suspect fled on foot after making contact with the victims. The incidents are believed to have occurred at McGee Street and Notre Dame Avenue, Victor Street and Notre Dame Avenue and near the Tecumseh Street Parkade.   The suspect is described as a male in his 20's with a thin build and was wearing an "army green" hoodie that was pulled up with khaki pants and dark gloves.    This investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).   Stolen Vehicle – Arrest: C17-262045   On November 20, 2017, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Division 11 officers were conducting a proactive patrol when they observed a stolen car being driven in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.   As they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the adult male driver exited the car and fled on foot. Members of the K9 unit attended and tracked the suspect to the rear of a residence in the 400 block of Alexander Avenue where he was found hiding under a porch concealed under garbage and snow.   The stolen vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the 700 block of William Avenue on November 14th.   Thomas Jeremy Spence, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:   - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000   He was also found to be the subject of two outstanding arrest warrants and was detained in custody.   Public Assistance Requested – Update/Arrested: Leslie Reid Contois   The Winnipeg Police Service previously requested the public's assistance in locating Leslie Reid Contois, a 42-year-old male of Winnipeg in August 2017.   Leslie was wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the City of Winnipeg that occurred on July 15, 2017.   He was also identified as a suspect for a serious arson at an apartment building in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street that occurred on July 28, 2017, As a result of the fire, six individuals were transported to hospital and later released. Damages to the building were estimated at approximately $1,000,000.   On November 20, 2017, at approximately 12:45 a.m., District 3 General Patrol members responded to the report of a disturbance at an apartment building in the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue.   Upon arrival, officers located Contois and took him into custody. Monday, November 20, 2017 Attempt Murder - Arrest:  C17-254055 On July 8, 2017, Winnipeg Police received the report of a female assaulted by a male armed with a firearm. In October 2017, police received information regarding a male in possession of a loaded revolver at a residence. On October 28, 2017, Winnipeg Police were alerted to an adult male threatened and assaulted by another male armed with a sawed off shotgun. The victim as transported to hospital treated for minor injuries and released. On October 31, 2017, a 24-year-old male was shot in the rear upper body and a 28-year-old female was shot in the rear lower body at a residence in Winnipeg. Both shooting victims were treated in hospital and later released. The suspect, while armed with a firearm, then confronted four adults at a nearby residence and threatened to shoot them. On November 4, 2017 Winnipeg Police requested the public's assistance in the locating the suspect. On November 18, 2017 Winnipeg Police were alerted to a male armed with a gun inside a residence in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue. The Tactical Support Unit and general patrol officers attended and determined that the male was still inside. Officers successfully called the suspect out of the residence and placed him under arrest. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a loaded .22 calibre revolver.
