ROBBERY INVESTIGATIONS ARREST C13-204891
Between May 2013 and October 2013, several strong-arm robbery and commercial robbery incidents occurred at various locations within the City of Winnipeg. As a result, members of the Major Crimes Unit and East District Crime Unit became involved.
The incidents are as follows:
May 5th female victim robbed of cash 1500 block of St. Mary's Road.
June 28th stolen property is pawned as a result of a previous vehicle break-in.
August 8th gas station robbed of cash - 1400 block of St. Mary's Road.
September 20th - female victim robbed of cash 1500 block of St. Mary's Road.
October 6th - female victim robbed of cash 1500 block of Regent Avenue West.
October 7th - gas station robbed of cash 1100 block of Nairn Avenue.
October 10th drug store robbed of cash 2200 block of Pembina Highway.
It's alleged that the suspect was either armed and/or made attempts to conceal his identity during the robbery incidents. No one was injured.
Due to the collaborative efforts by the Major Crimes Unit and East District Detectives, the suspect was identified and arrested on October 10th.
Shahn HUNTER, 42 years-old has been charged with: Robbery with a Weapon x 5, Robbery, Disguise with Intent x 4, Possess Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance x 7.
He was detained.
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C13-209403
On October 12, 2013 at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers responded to a collision which was reported to have occurred in the area of Pembina Highway and Jubilee Avenue.
As a result of the collision, a 22 year-old male was transported in critical condition.
The investigation has revealed that a tow-truck was parked in a southbound direction on Pembina Highway assisting motorists involved in an unrelated matter. It was during this time, a Ford Focus also travelling in a southbound direction, rear-ended the unoccupied tow-truck causing a serious collision.
Members of the Central Traffic Unit were notified and continue to investigate.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
Southbound Pembina Highway was closed to traffic for a period of time, but has since re-opened.
