Homicide Investigation Arrests C16-8008
On January 12, 2016, shortly before 6:00 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of William Avenue for the report of a stabbing.
Two adult females were located suffering from serious injuries as a result of an apparent stabbing. Both were transported to hospital in critical condition where one of the victims later succumbed to her injuries. The second victim has since been upgraded to stable condition.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Cynthia Marie FRENCH of Winnipeg.
A 35-year-old female was arrested at the scene. A second suspect was arrested a short time later in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.
It was learned that the victims had returned to their home in the 500 block of William Avenue earlier in the afternoon to discover the 35-year-old suspect in the deceased's room. The suspect was eventually forced from the residence. Within an hour, the suspect, along with her sister attended to the residence at which time they proceeded to stab both victims in the upper body. One of the victims was able to escape and make her way to a payphone where she contacted police. The two suspects left the residence and located the victim at the payphone where they proceeded to assault her a second time.
Candice Nora NEPINAK, 31 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Attempt Murder for her alleged involvement.
Vanessa Louise NEPINAK, 35 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Attempt Murder for her alleged involvement.
Both have been detained in custody.
Stolen Vehicle Arrest R16-75
On the evening of January 1, 2016, the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a vehicle having been stolen in the River Heights area.
On January 12th shortly after 11:00 p.m. members observed the stolen vehicle being operated by a lone male in the area of Inkster Boulevard and McGregor Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed, eventually heading north on Main Street. Members of AIR1 followed the vehicle into the Rural Municipality of St Andrews where the driver was seen to flee from the vehicle. Winnipeg Police Uniform and Canine members, along with members from the RCMP were able to arrest the suspect without incident after a short foot pursuit.
No injuries or damage occurred during the incident.
Joseph Christopher COLOSIMO, 32 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Drive while disqualified
He was detained in custody.
