Robbery Investigation and Pursuit Arrest – C16-0010380 C16-0010386
On January 16, 2016 at approximately 3:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery in progress at a gas station located in the 1700 block of Kenaston Boulevard.

It's been determined that a lone male suspect attended to the business and confronted a female employee. The suspect concealed his identity and was armed with a gun when he robbed the business.

During the robbery, the suspect discharged a firearm before fleeing in a vehicle. No one was injured as a result.

At approximately 4:10 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of Regent Avenue West and Stapon Road. The suspect fled at a high rate of speed and officers pursued. The suspect vehicle was observed to be driven erratically having no regard for public safety.

The suspect discharged his firearm in the direction of police and involved officer(s) exchanged fire. No one was injured.

The suspect eventually came to a stop in the area of Springfield Road and a dead end, west of Lagimodiere Boulevard. The suspect was taking into custody due to the efforts of Canine and Patrol members.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit and Major Crimes Unit.

A 51-year-old male is in custody and is facing numerous charges due to his alleged involvement.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified, pursuant to the Manitoba Police Services Act.


Residential Robbery Investigation Update - Arrests – C16-002842
As previously released, on January 4, 2016 at approximately 8:00 p.m., several adult male suspects attended to a residence located on Lou Peltier Crescent and confronted three occupants.

The armed suspects, while concealing their identity forced their way into the home and began demanding money and property. The victims, a 30-year-old female, 60-year-old female and a 36-year-old male were not allowed to leave the residence and were physically assaulted over a three hour duration.

The suspects stole property, which included the homeowners Toyota Rav4.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified. Officers subsequently located the stolen vehicle and two suspects while travelling in the area of the 1300 block of Concordia Avenue. They were arrested, taken into custody and further processed by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

Henok Kebede YIHDEG, 18-years-old and Hamza MASABO, 20-years-old were charged with numerous offences due to their alleged involvement.

The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

The following illegal drugs taken during the robbery and placed inside the stolen vehicle were seized by officers:

  • 4 kilograms of Cocaine with an estimated street value of $240,000.00
  • 430 grams of Marihuana with an estimated street value of $6,450.00
  • 21 grams of Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $3,150.00
  • 220 grams of cutting agent
  • Cocaine press

On January 13th and 14th, three additional people were arrested.

A 30-year-old female, 36-year-old male and 60-year-old female are facing numerous drug related offences due to their alleged involvement:

·       Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
·       Produce a Scheduled Substance (Cocaine)
·       Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking -Methamphetamine
·       Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cannabis (Marihuana)

The 36-year-old male was remanded into custody and the two females were released via a promise to appear.
