Fraud Arrest R15-54648
Between March of 2009 and December of 2015, a 39 year-old male was employed as the administrator at the Parish of Saint Bernadette on Cottonwood Road in the City of Winnipeg.
During this time frame, he was entrusted with numerous duties which included managing the finances of the church.
It's alleged that he exploited his position for his own financial gain by embezzling and withdrawing over $400,000.00. He then covered up his actions by entering false information into the general ledger.
The inconsistencies were detected during a routine audit done by the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface that started in late May 2015 and reported to Winnipeg Police service in July of 2015.
The Archdiocese of Saint Boniface conducted a thorough audit of the all financial transactions of the Parish and presented all their findings in November of 2015 to the Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Crime Unit who continued with the investigation.
On January 5, 2016, Leo MCCAUGHAN, 39-years-old of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with the following offences:
Theft over $5000.00
Fraud over $5000.00
Falsification of books and documents
He was remanded into custody.
Residential Robbery Investigation Arrests C16-002842
On January 4, 2016 at approximately 8:00 p.m., several adult male suspects attended to a residence located on Lou Peltier Crescent and confronted three occupants.
The armed suspects, while concealing their identity forced their way into the home and began demanding money and property. The victims, a 30-year-old female, 59-year-old female and a 36-year-old male were not allowed to leave the residence and were physically assaulted over a three hour duration.
The suspects stole property, which included the homeowners Toyota Rav4.
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified. Officers subsequently located the stolen vehicle and two suspects while travelling in the area of the 1300 block of Concordia Avenue. They were arrested, taken into custody and further processed by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
Henok Kebede YIHDEG, 18-years-old and Hamza MASABO, 20-years-old have been charged with numerous offences due to their alleged involvement which include:
Armed Robbery Using a Firearm x 3
Kidnapping x 2
Pointing a Firearm x 3
Forcible Confinement
Uttering Threats x 3
Assault Cause Bodily Harm x 3
Possession of a Weapon x 3
Pointing a Firearm x 3
Both males were remanded into custody. The investigation is continuing.
Grow Operation Arrest R15-95557
On January 5, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Marihuana Grow Operation Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a residence located in the 200 block of Centennial Street.
After the search, the following was located and seized by officers:
292 Marihuana Plants - estimated street value over $327,000.00
Grow Operation Equipment valued at over $5200.00
A 32-year-old male was arrested and is facing the following offences:
Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
Produce a Scheduled Substance
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
Shooting Investigation C16-003345
On January 5, 2016 at approximately 6:00 p.m., two males attended to a residence located in the 500 block of Spence Street, when a shooting occurred striking a 35-year-old male in the lower body.
The victim was transported to hospital by his male associate where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Shooting Investigation C16-003189
On January 5, 2016 at approximately 1:00 p.m., two males known to each other met at a residence located in the 300 block of Madison Street.
During their meeting, a 29-year-old male was shot in the lower body causing him to flee the area and contact police. The suspect fled and the investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crime Unit.
The victim is in stable condition.
