Assault Investigation – C16-226754
On October 29, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police and Fire Paramedic Services responded to a report of an assault at an apartment in the 400 block of Maryland Street. A male victim in his twenties was conveyed to hospital with numerous injuries. He is presently listed in stable condition.

Police were at this location early this morning as part of the ongoing investigation. While inside a suite, officers observed a white powdery substance of unknown origin. As a precautionary tactic the Winnipeg Police Service Clandestine Lab Unit was deployed.

Officers within this unit are trained to safely respond to various situations where a potential safety hazard exists due to the possible presence of any number of illegal drugs. Members of this team utilize hazmat suits and other personal protective equipment in performing their duties. There is no suspicion that a drug lab was in existence.

The investigation is ongoing. Further information will be released when it becomes available.
