Suspicious Deaths Investigation: C18-105707
On May 21, 2018, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a request to check the well-being of a resident in the 600 block of Buckingham Road.
Officers attended and located two deceased adults in the residence.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Weapons Request for Witnesses: C18-103261
As previously released:
On May 18, 2018, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Traffic Division came upon a group on individuals on the verge of a physical confrontation in the area of Graham Avenue and Hargrave Street.
In an effort to disperse the parties, officers activated their vehicle's air horn causing the group to step back from one another. At this time, a male yelled a comment about another male in the group having pointed a firearm at him earlier.
Officers located the suspect male holding a small crowbar and with what appeared to be a firearm sticking out of his pant pocket. The male was safely taken into custody. A search resulted in the seizure of a number of items including:
- Numerous stolen identification cards in various names.
- The small crowbar.
- A black imitation plastic handgun.
The male initially provided a false name but was identified by his fingerprints with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section.
John Abraham Choken, a 40-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Forged Document with Intent
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 (x7)
- Identity Theft
Choken was also processed on an outstanding warrant for his involvement in an attempted stabbing on April 18, 2018, in the 200 block of Edmonton Street. He has been charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
He was detained in custody.
