Saturday, May 24, 2014 Commercial Robbery Arrests C14-105576 On May 23, 2014 shortly before 11:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a store in the 900 block of Portage Avenue for a commercial robbery. Report was that two males, one armed with a firearm, had just robbed the store of merchandise and then fled on foot. No injuries. Several units, including uniform and Street Crime, converged on the area and the two suspects were observed running. After a brief pursuit the two were arrested in the 700 block of Sherburn Street. The stolen merchandise and firearm (found to be a plastic replica) were recovered. The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit. It was learned that the two suspects had selected several bottles of liquor. As they left for the exit, they were asked by two employees if they were going to pay. It was at this time one of the males pulled out the firearm and pointed it at one of the employees. Both suspects then fled the store. While fleeing through yards, one of the suspects 'body checked' a male who attempted to apprehend him. The male was not injured. Two males both 16 years of age of Winnipeg have been charged with numerous robbery, weapons and breach of court order related offences for their alleged involvement. One of the males was also processed on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking. Both were detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre. Commercial Robbery C14-105838 On May 23, 2014 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a gas bar in the 300 block of Wardlaw Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery. Officers met with the clerk who advised that an unknown male had produced a weapon, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes after which he fled the scene. The clerk was not injured. The suspect is described as: Caucasian male with darker skin, 20-30 years of age, 6' tall with short black hair, facial hair described as '5 o'clock shadow' and a medium build. The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
