Friday, May 23rd, 2014   40thAnnual School Safety Patrol  Awards The Winnipeg Police Service hosted the 40th Annual School Safety Patrol Awards ceremony this morning at the Convention Centre.   Since 1936, the Winnipeg Police Service has been involved in the School Safety Patrol Program.  Winnipeg is proud to have had the first fully organized and officially recognized school patrol program in Canada.  The School Safety Patrol Program is beginning its 78th year.   Every year the patrols are judged on their ability, professionalism and technique while on patrol by the School Education Section of the Winnipeg Police Service.   In 2014, there were approximately 7,000 patrols ensuring our children arrive safely to their schools everyday here in Winnipeg.   The top four City-Wide School Patrol teams are as follows:   1st Place  Montrose School – Winnipeg School Division – South District CAA Manitoba Trophy   2nd Place Ecole Lacerte– Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine  Winnipeg Free Press Trophy   3rd Place  Ecole Riverbend Community - Seven Oaks School Division Manitoba Public Insurance Trophy   4th Place Ecole Van Belleghem – Louis-Riel School Division  Winnipeg Police Service Trophy   The Most Improved School Patrol Team is:   Victor H.L.
