SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION C12-50226
On March 20, 2012, at approximately 5:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a serious sexual assault incident involving a 22 year old female victim.
 
Officers met with the victim and information was provided regarding the incident.
 
At approximately 12:30 a.m., the victim was in the area of Main Street and Bannatyne Avenue when she was approached by an unknown male. The two engaged in a conversation for a period of time, eventually entering a city transit bus travelling towards the Fort Rouge area of the city. The two exited the bus near the area of Osborne Street and Walker Avenue at which time they entered a nearby convenience store. After making a purchase the two left the store and began walking around the area ending up near the St. Vital Bridge.
 
It was at this time a serious sexual assault occurred. The victim eventually fled the area making her way to a nearby curling club. The male followed the victim and proceeded to rob her of her property.
 
Police were notified and members of the WPS Sex Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. As a result, investigators are requesting the public's assistance in identifying the following person of interest:
 
The male is described as: Black, in his late 30's - early 40's, 6'00" tall, slim build, short black hair (shaved) and clean shaven.

WEAPONS AND DRUG ARREST – C12-94814
On May 22, 2012, District 3 General Patrol members, with the assistance of District 3 Community Support members, Street Crime Unit, Tactical Support Team, Canine Unit, Crisis Negotiators and National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), became involved in a weapon and drug investigation.  
 
At approximately 2:05 p.m., officers arrested a male in the area of the 1400 block of Logan Avenue as a result of the ongoing investigation.
 
At approximately 2:45 p.m., a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search warrant and Firearms warrant was executed at a residence located in the 2200 block of Gallagher Avenue.
 
The following items were located and seized:
 
  • 2 modified (stock sawed off) shotguns
  • Modified (barrel sawed off) Rifle
  • Numerous rounds of ammunition and magazines
  • Bear spray
  • 2 machetes
  • 32 grams of marihuana – estimated street value $320.00
  • Cash
  • Miscellaneous drug paraphernalia
 
 
Sheldon Lee WEST, 29 years has been charged with numerous weapon and drug related offences due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained.
