AGGRAVATED ASSAULT – ARREST   C13-246135
On November 30, 2013, at 7:20 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a suite located in the 200 block of Midwinter Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
After consuming alcohol, two males known to each other became involved in an argument. One of the males produced a weapon and a 32 year-old male victim was stabbed. The victim was initially transported from the scene in critical condition, later upgraded to stable condition. A 38 year-old male suspect fled the area.  
 
A short time later, Patrol members observed the suspect still in the area. He was identified and placed under arrest.
 
Members of the East District Crime Unit were notified and continued the investigation.
 
A 38 year-old male is facing the following charges:
 

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault

 
He remains in custody.

CHILD WELFARE INVESTIGATION – ARREST   C13-245106
On November 28, 2013 at 11:40 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the Point Douglas area of the city to check on the wellbeing of children believed to have been left alone.
 
Officers responded and confirmed that three children under the age of five years (two females, one male) had been left alone within the residence. It was also determined that three cats and two dogs were also present.
 
After assessing the state of the residence, it was quickly determined that the conditions were unfit for habitation.
 
The children are presently in care and the animals have been seized.
 
A 24 year-old female is facing the following charges:
 
Failing to provide the necessities of life to a child x 3
Forcible confinement x 3
Cruelty to animals
 
She has been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Child Abuse Unit.
 
 
SEXUAL ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON   C13-245239
On November 29, 2013 at 5:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the report of a sexual assault incident that occurred in the William Whyte area involving a 31 year old female victim.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim was walking home near Salter Street and College Avenue when she encountered an unknown male. The male forced the victim to a secluded area at which time a sexual assault occurred. The suspect was armed with a weapon at the time of the incident.
 
The victim fled to a nearby business at which time police were called.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, large/stocky build, approximately 25 year-old and short hair.

MISSING PERSON – BRADDEN BUSHIE   R13-85412
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating an 18 year-old male, Bradden BUSHIE.
 
BUSHIE was last seen on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the West Broadway area of Winnipeg. 
 
BUSHIE is described as: Aboriginal, 5'11" tall, 147 lbs., shaved black hair with a long black ponytail and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a: black shiny jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt and a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white and black runners and a carrying a backpack or cross shoulder bag.
 


 


 

  

 
The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for BUSHIE'S well-being.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C13-244870
On November 28, 2013 at 6:50 p.m., a lone male suspect entered a convenience store located in the 400 block of Main Street. The suspect jumped over the counter and confronted a 51 year-old female employee. The suspect pushed the employee to the floor causing any injury.
 
An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen and the suspect fled.
 
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, male, 6'2" tall and a large build.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or further details pertaining to the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477). 
 
 
SUSPICIOUS MALE   C13-244749
On November 28, 2013 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a 12 year-old female was walking in the area of the 400 block of Chalmers Avenue when she observed a suspicious male and vehicle.
 
As she was walking, the male made a U-turn and began driving towards her. She lost sight of the vehicle when she noticed that the male was now following her on foot. It was at this time the male confronted her and made an inappropriate comment of a sexual nature. No contact was made.
 
The victim fled the area unharmed and police were notified.
 
The suspect and vehicle are described as follows:
 
Caucasian, male, 20-30 years-old, approximately 5'7" tall, average build, short blonde hair, clean shaven, wearing a: black sweater with a horizontal stripe down the sleeve
 
Newer black van with a silver pinstripe along the side

UPDATE - MISSING PERSON - ROBERT THOMSON   R12-90528
As previously released - The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating 21 year old, Robert (Bobby) THOMSON. New information indicates that THOMSON was last seen during the evening hours of Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the River and Osborne Liquor Mart, 469 River Avenue in the company of a male and female.

THOMSON is described as a: Caucasian, male, 5'7" tall, 140 pounds, slim build with brown hair and blue eyes. 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone who may have either had contact with Thomson in late July of 2012 or possesses further information regarding his whereabouts, to contact the Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250. 
 
 
 
BREAK-IN AND THEFT INVESTIGATION   C13-238828
Sometime between November 8th & November 12th, 2013 unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a secure construction job site located in the 1700 block of Plessis Road.
 
Once inside, a Bobcat T250K – track machine was targeted and removed from the site. It is described as being white with orange and black accents. It has a green "BIRD" decal on both arms behind the cab including "SS-05" on both arms.
 
It is believed that the suspect(s) may have used a large flat deck truck/trailer to facilitate the theft.

 
 

 
The investigation is continuing by members of the East District Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the theft or the current whereabouts of the Bobcat is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-3707 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).   
 
 
STOLEN VEHICLE – ARREST C13-242874
On November 26, 2013 at approximately 9:45 p.m., District 3 Patrol members observed a stolen Chevrolet Trailblazer being operated in the area of Pritchard Avenue and Parr Street.
 
Members of the Flight Operations Unit (Air1) were deployed who quickly spotted the stolen vehicle being operated in an unsafe manner. The suspect drove through several areas of the North End eventually making his way into the Downtown area. 

Officers observed the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Ellice Avenue at Balmoral Street. He then began travelling northbound on Spence Street where he stopped and exited the vehicle.
 
Due to the coordinated efforts by Patrol members and Air1, a 34 year-old male was taken into custody.
 
He is facing the following charges:
 
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
HTA – Drive while Disqualified
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.

CHILD ABUSE IMAGERY – ARREST R13-56998
Between July and November 2013, officers from Peel Regional Police made contact with a male on a well-known file sharing program commonly used by child abuse imagery collectors.
 
The investigation continued and several images and videos of young males were located associated to this male's account. The investigation continued by members of Peel Regional Police.
 
The male was eventually identified as residing in the Winnipeg area. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) were notified and commenced an investigation.
 
On November 26, 2013 a search warrant was executed at a residence located in the Windsor Park area of the city.
 
A 38 year-old male is facing the following charges:
 
Possessing Child Pornography
Access Child Pornography
Make/Print/Publish Child Pornography
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING C13-243474
On November 26, 2013 at approximately 9:20 p.m., an 18 year-old female was walking with friends in the area on Elgin Avenue and Isabel Street when an unknown male approached the group.
 
As the male walked passed, and for unknown reasons, the female was stabbed with an unknown object. Police and Ambulance were notified from a nearby business.
 
The victim was initially transported in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable condition.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 20-25 years and heavy build.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).  
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – C13-243222
On November 26, 2013 at approximately 2:15 p.m., an unknown male, while concealing his identity entered a business located in the 200 block of Henderson Highway and confronted a 22-year-old female employee.
 
The suspect produced a gun and demanded cash. No money was obtained and the suspect fled.
 
The firearm was not discharged and no injuries were reported.
 
The suspect is described: male, approximately 6'0" tall, stocky build wearing dark clothing.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

FOURTH ANNUAL WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE/ BOSTON PIZZA "TIP A COP"
 
On November 27th, 2013, the Winnipeg Police Service Community Relations Unit in partnership with Boston Pizza will be holding its fourth annual "Tip a Cop" event.
 
Winnipeg Police Service members will be wearing their issued uniforms and acting as celebrity servers at all 9 Winnipeg area Boston Pizza Restaurants.  The event starts at 11:00 a.m. and will be concluded by 7:00 p.m.
 
The event is in support of the Inner City Youth Scholarship Fund, which provides Inner City Youth with the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education at the University of Winnipeg.  This event, along with the Winnipeg Police Community Challenge Golf Tournament has raised over $90,000.00.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service including other participants will be in attendance and serving at all Boston Pizza locations throughout the day. 
 
Members and participants will be available for media interviews at the City Place location as well the other restaurants throughout the city.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to encourage members of the community to attend and support this very worthwhile cause.

CDSA SEARCH WARRANT ARRESTS – C13-240984
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit recently became involved in a drug investigation regarding the trafficking of cocaine.  As a result of the investigation a Controlled Drug & Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant was obtained for a residence in the 300 block of Gertrude Street.
 
On November 23, 2013 shortly after 6:00 p.m. with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team the warrant was executed.  Two adults were arrested for their alleged involvement.
 
A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of approximately $80,000.00 worth of drugs including, cocaine, marihuana and ecstasy along with over $50,000.00 in Canadian currency.
 
Perry Thomas BABB 27 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – COCAINE, Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – CANNABIS (MARIHUANA), Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – ECSTASY & Possession of Proceeds  of Property Obtained by Crime.
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
A 21 year old female from East St Paul, MB is facing charges of Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – COCAINE, Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – CANNABIS (MARIHUANA), Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – ECSTASY & Possession of Proceeds  of Property Obtained by Crime.
 
She was released via a Promise to Appear.
 
 
HOMICIDE – C13-239733
On the evening of November 21, 2013 emergency personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Mayfair Avenue for the report of a male having been assaulted.
 
Upon arrival an adult male was located and later transported to hospital in critical condition.  He has since succumbed to his injuries.
 
The victim has been identified as Stacy Ralph BARKMAN 39 years of Winnipeg.

Early investigation by members of the West District Station Crime unit revealed that several people had been socializing in one of the suites.  An altercation between the victim and suspect, not previously known to each other, ended with the suspect physically assaulting the victim about the upper body.  The suspect then fled prior to police arrival.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation. 
 
The suspect was located and arrested for his alleged involvement.
 
Patrick Jeremy HILL, 25 years of God's Lake First Nation was originally charged with Aggravated Assault.  He is now facing a further charge of 2nd Degree Murder.
 
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating the following 14 year old male, JAMES ALBERT SUMNER. SUMNER was last seen in the downtown area of Winnipeg on Friday November 15, 2013.
 
SUMNER is described as: Aboriginal, 5'9" tall, approximately 140 pounds, slim build, with short black hair and brown eyes. SUMNER was last seen wearing blue jeans, black top with black shoes.

MARIHUANA GROW OPERATION ARREST – C13-239948
On November 22, 2013 members of the Winnipeg Police Service Marihuana Grow Operation unit along with Uniform and Tactical Support Team members executed a CDSA (Controlled Drug & Substances Act) search warrant in the 400 block of Manitoba Avenue.
 
One male was taken into custody and arrested.
 
The search resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • 302 marihuana plants with an estimated street value of $338,240.00
  • 4 pounds of dry marihuana with an estimated street value of $10,000.00
  • $6,975.00 in Canadian currency
  • Grow operation equipment valued at $15,000.00

The 48 year old male from Winnipeg is facing charges of Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking – CANNABIS (MARIHUANA), Production of controlled substance – CANNABIS (MARIHUANA) & Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime for his alleged involvement.
 
He was releases via a Promise to Appear.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL FIRE – C13-240269
As already reported in the media, on November 22, 2013 shortly after 3:00 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1st 100 block of Hindley Avenue for the report of a fire.
 
A 67 year old male was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.  His name is not being released at this time.
 
An adult female along with a female child were transported to hospital and later released. 
 
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and members of the Arson Strike Force are continuing with the investigation.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION UPDATE – C13-240704
As released earlier today, on November 23, 2013 at approximately 3:15 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of St Anne's Road and Pilgrim Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle collision.
 
Responding personnel arrived to find that a single vehicle was involved.  The driver, a 23 year old male from Winnipeg was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries.  The 20 year old female passenger also from Winnipeg was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
 
Speed and alcohol are being considered as contributing factors.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with Police is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
