The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 56 year old male, Douglas BENDER.
 
BENDER was last seen on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 in the East Kildonan area of Winnipeg. 

 
 
 
BENDER is described as Caucasian, 5'11" tall, 127 pounds with short brown hair and blue eyes and wears prescription glasses. 
 
Police are concerned for BENDER'S wellbeing.
 
Anyone with information regarding BENDER'S whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 204-986-6250.

DRUG AND FIREARM ARRESTS    R12-113424 / C12-219185
As a result of an on-going investigation, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit, on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at approximately 12:45 a.m., conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of the 400 block of Talbot Avenue.
 
The vehicle was occupied by two males at the time. A subsequent search of the vehicle and occupants resulted in the seizure of one sawed-off shot gun and five shot gun shells. The passenger of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody.
 
Johnathan Eric James GREENTREE, 27 years of Winnipeg has been charged with:
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Breach of Firearms Regulation
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Firearm while Prohibited
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance X3
  • Breach of Probation
 
GREENTREE was detained in custody.
 
Further to the on-going investigation, on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 2:15 a.m., police members attended to a residence in the 500 block of Ottawa Avenue where they executed a Control Drugs and Substance Act search warrant.
 
Attending members located a male suspect inside the residence at which time he was arrested and taken into custody.
 
A 35 year old male of Winnipeg is pending charges of:
  • Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance X 2
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
FIRE    C12-220049
On Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at approximately 10:15 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the 400 block of Maryland Street regarding a fire.
 
An investigation revealed that fire was set to the exterior of the building by unknown persons. All occupants were safely evacuated from the building without injuries.
 
Damage is estimated at approximately $20,000 dollars.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force.

BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATION – ARRESTS C12-160665
Between May 2012 and October 2012, members of the District 6 Crime Unit became aware of a break and enter crime spree involving numerous residences throughout the City of Winnipeg. It has been determined that a group of individuals were involved, resulting in a lengthy investigation.
 
Officers have revealed that the suspects would gain entry to residences or garages at which time property such as: vehicles, electronics, jewellery, cash, credit cards, and other household items were stolen. It is estimated that the total value of the stolen property exceeds $180,000.00.
 
Above and beyond property stolen, homeowners were faced with damage to their property which has been estimated at a total of nearly $25,000.00.
 
Due to the efforts of the District 6 Crime Unit, District 6 Uniform Patrol and Street Crime Unit members, the following individuals have been arrested and charged due to their alleged involvement:
 
Trevor DUCK, 26 years – Break, Enter a Dwelling House X 37
Sheldon CATCHAWAY, 21 years - Break, Enter a Dwelling House X 33
Robyn GOTTSCHALK, 32 years – Possess Goods Obtained by Crime x 28
Joseph VANWYK, 33 years – Possess Goods Obtained by Crime x 26
Brenda DMYTRUK, 31 years-Break, Enter x 5, Possess Goods Obtained by Crime x 2
Steve SAVAGE, 45 years –Possess Goods Obtained by Crime x 4
Nicholas HARPER, 21 years –Possess Goods Obtained by Crime x 2, Break, Enter a Dwelling House x 2
 
The investigation is on-going and further charges are pending. 
 
 
THEFT INVESTIGATION – ARRESTS C12-208475
On October 13, 2012, at approximately 3:00 p.m., RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Lagimodiere Boulevard and the Perimeter Highway involving a car containing two occupants.
 
The male and female occupant were taken into custody at which time officers found them to be in possession of a large quantity of cellular phones.
 
The investigation was tasked to members of the Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 Crime Unit for further investigation.
 
As a result, it was revealed that the two suspects had previously entered a business located in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. While present, one of the suspects distracted an employee, while the other gained access to cabinets containing a variety of cellular phones.
 
15 cellular phones valued at over $10,000.00 were stolen.   
 
Angelo SPARKS, 43 years and Dayna Nelson, 24 years have been charged with: Theft over $5000.00 and Possess Goods Obtained by Crime due to their alleged involvement.
 
They were detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
The investigation is continuing.

JONES was last seen on October 27, 2012 at approximately 10:00 p.m. in the North End area of Winnipeg. She may have also attended to the north-west area of the city.
 
JONES is described as: Aboriginal, 5'6" tall, 130 lbs., with medium length brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a short black leather jacket, blue jeans and was carrying a purple wallet.

ASSAULT – ARREST C12-192831
On October 11, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit received a file for investigation regarding an incident involving Manitoba Corrections.
 
It's alleged that on August 30, 2012, a female Correctional Officer became involved in a verbal dispute with an inmate while at a local facility. As a result of the incident, the Correctional Officer assaulted the victim multiple times to the upper body.
 
A complaint was made and an investigation was launched involving Manitoba Corrections and the Winnipeg Police Service.
 
On October 26, 2012, at approximately 12:00 noon, a 30 year old female turned herself in to police. She is facing the following charge: Assault.
 
She was released on an Appearance Notice.
 
 
CHILD ABUSE IMAGERY – ARREST R12-112174
On October 16, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit were advised by a local business that an employee was suspected of accessing Child Abuse Imagery while at work.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 38 year old male was arrested and is now facing the following charges:
 
Access Child Pornography and Possess Child Pornography
 
The investigation also led to a search warrant being executed at the male's residence in the RM of Springfield, Manitoba. It was at this time several electronic devices were seized from within the home for forensic review.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
The male was released on a Promise to Appear.

WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE PATROLMEN JOIN FORCES WITH NHLPA
On Saturday, November 17, 2012, the Winnipeg Police Service Patrolmen Hockey Club will face off with the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA), in the Goals for Dreams Hockey Challenge.
The game starts at 3:00 p.m. at the at the University of Manitoba's Max Bell Centre.
All proceeds raised at this event will go directly to support the Dream Factory and Children's Hospital Foundation.
The Dream Factory is a Manitoba based children's charity that provides wishes to children with life threatening illness. Upon granting the request of an eligible child, the Dream Factory will;

  • Ensure the dream is in the best interest of the child
  • Include the child's immediate family
  • Fulfill the dream outside the hospital environment
  • Provide funds to families who require financial assistance

 

 

The Children's Hospital Foundation is a Manitoba based charity whose purpose is to raise and distribute funds for the advancement of knowledge and care in the fields of child health and child health research.

Team Ladd and Team Stuart have invited the following members of the NHLPA, to participate in the event; Blake Wheeler, Dustin Byfuglien, Brian Little, Jim Slater, Olli Jokinen, Tanner Glass, Travis Zajac, Colin Wilson, Shane Hnidy, and Jonathon Toews.
The Winnipeg Police Service Patrolmen Hockey Club will be split up among both Team Ladd and Team Stuart.
At the conclusion of the game, those in attendance will have an opportunity to "win the jersey off the NHLPA player's backs".
The game will include mascots, tykes' teams, and a post-game autograph session.
Tickets for the game will be $20.00 and will go on sale October 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at all 9 Winnipeg area Boston Pizza Restaurants, the Dream Factory Office, 303-1 Wesley Avenue and the Children's Hospital Foundation, RM CE501-840 Sherbrook Avenue.
The Patrolmen are comprised of Winnipeg Police Officers, with the majority of the team having either: NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, WHL, OHL, and NCAA playing experience. The team has been in existence since 1998, and have raised over $280,000.00 for Manitoba based charities.
The Patrolmen would like to thank our partner Boston Pizza for sponsoring the event.

UPDATE - HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-217005
As previously released - on October 26, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 500 block of Sargent Avenue regarding reports of an injured male.
 
Attending members located 39 year old Adam Jackson NATTAWAY with serious upper body injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was transported from the scene and later pronounced deceased.
 
Attending members discovered that the victim had previously attended a gathering at a suite located in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street. While there, an altercation took place resulting in the victim sustaining serious injuries. The victim fled to a nearby business where emergency personnel made initial contact. 
 
As a result of the investigation, a number of people, including the suspect were taken into custody.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continued with the investigation to investigate.
 
Edmund SEYMOURE WESCOUPE, 49 years has been charged with Manslaughter as a result of his alleged involvement.
 
He has been detained.

DRUG – ARRESTS C12-217433
On October 27, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of District 3 Uniform Patrol members, became involved in an investigation regarding a dial a dealer operation in the North End area of the city.
 
As a result of the investigation, at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop involving a sport utility vehicle in the area of Redwood Avenue and Charles Street. It was at that time officers observed a quantity of illegal drugs within the vehicle, resulting in five occupants being taken into custody.
 
Officers located and seized the following:
 
A total of 4.5 grams of Cocaine – estimated street value of $360.00
A quantity of cash
 
Due to the efforts of WPS members involved, a 50 year male, 23 year old male, 22 year old male, 24 year old female and 20 year old female were arrested and taken into custody.
 
All five arrested are facing the following charge: Possessing Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine.
 
Other charges include: Possess Proceeds of Crime (50 year old, 23 year old and 20 year old)
 
Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance (24 year old)
 
Breach Probation x 2 (23 year old)
 
Warrant- Breach Probation x 2 and Breach Probation (22 year old)
 
The 22, 23, and 24 year old were detained. All others were released on a Promise to Appear.
 
  
STABBING C12-218101
On October 28, 2012, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Uniform Patrol members, Air1, and Canine Unit members responded to the area of the 100 block of Euclid Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
A 29 year old male victim was located suffering from upper body injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was transported from the scene in unstable condition however he has been upgraded to stable condition.
 
At this time, limited information is being provided to officers regarding the incident. No arrest(s) have been made.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C12-217005
On October 26, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 500 block of Sargent Avenue regarding reports of an injured male.
 
Attending members located a 39 year old male with serious upper body injuries consistent with being stabbed. The male was transported from the scene and later pronounced deceased.
 
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit have been notified and continue to investigate.
 
An autopsy is pending.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C12-217005
On October 26, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 500 block of Sargent Avenue regarding reports of an injured male.
 
Attending members located a 49 year old male with serious upper body injuries consistent with being stabbed. The male was transported from the scene and later pronounced deceased.
 
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit have been notified and continue to investigate.
 
An autopsy is pending.
