HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - ARREST C12-61774
As previously released- on April 6, 2012, at approximately 12:10 a.m., uniform patrol members responded to the area of the 600 block of Maryland Street regarding a shooting incident.
Attending members located an injured male on the sidewalk with injuries consistent with being shot. The male was transported from the scene and later succumbed to injuries sustained.
The victim was identified as 42 year old, Allan Frank CROCKFORD.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
The investigation has revealed that CROCKFORD and another male were walking in the area when they were confronted by a male suspect. The suspect attempted to get their attention when he produced a rifle and discharged it in the direction of the victim. The suspect robbed the victims of their property and fled the area.
As a result of a lengthy investigation, with the assistance of the public and the media, on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m., 26 year old, Derek John HALL was arrested while in custody for an unrelated matter.
Hall has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
- 2nd Degree Murder
- Robbery with a Firearm
- Numerous Firearm related offences
He was detained.
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C13-34167
On February 20, 2013 at approximately 2:50 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a gas station located in the 100 block of Salter Street regarding a robbery incident.
Officers discovered that a male and female suspect entered the business and confronted a 44 year old male employee. The male suspect then proceeded over the counter while armed with a knife. It was at this time the suspect demanded cash resulting in an altercation involving the victim.
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Both suspects fled the area.
The male suspect is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 5'11" tall, 150 lbs., thin build.
No descriptors were provided regarding the female suspect.
