SUSPICIOUS ITEM LOCATED C13-98336
On May 23, 2013 at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Dudley Avenue regarding a suspicious item being located by a construction company doing work in the area.
 
Members of the WPS Bomb Unit, assisted by the Canadian Military attended and examined the object further.  The cylinder with fins on one end is described as 3" in diameter and approximately 9" in length.  
 
As a result, the immediate area was evacuated for a period of time while the investigation continued.
 
The item has been determined to be a "smoke mortar" however its age and origin is undetermined at this time.
 
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
 
SUSPICIOUS PERSON C13-98409
On May 23, 2013, at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of an incident regarding two young females being approached by a suspicious male in a vehicle while in the area of Ferrier Street and Beecher Avenue.
 
It was reported that the girls (10 and 11 years of age) were approached by a male in a vehicle who requested that they get into his truck and go for a ride. The girls declined and fled the area. No contact was made and no injuries were reported.
 
The male was observed to screech his tires and play loud music from his vehicle at the time of the incident.  
 
The vehicle is described as: White, older model two-door truck, rust along the bottom edge and tinted rear windows.
 
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, Male, 30-40 years of age, skinny build, clean shaven, reddish/orange curly hair, wearing black sunglasses and a white t-shirt.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2848 or 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS R12-133031
On May 23, 2013 at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and the District 3 Community Support Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a residence located in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue.
 
As a result, the following was located and seized by investigators:
 
352 marihuana plants – estimated street value of $394,240.00
24 lbs. of dried marihuana – estimated street value $60,000.00
$3,575.00 cash
Grow Operation equipment – valued at $8,000.00
 
A 42 year old male, 39 year old male, 52 year old female and 42 year old female have been arrested and are facing the following charges:
 
Production of Marihuana
Possess for the Purpose of Trafficking
Theft of Telecommunication
Possess Proceeds of Crime
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear.
