Sunday, July 28, 2013 CHILD DEATHS INVESTIGATION UPDATE – C13-146489 As previously reported, on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to a Check the Wellbeing incident in the 1st 100 block of Coleridge Park Drive. Responding personnel located two young children within the residence. Both were transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to their injuries. Police requested the public and media's assistance in locating the children's mother, Lisa GIBSON. On Saturday, July 27, 2013 shortly after 9:30 a.m. a body was observed in the Red River south of the Alexander Docks. Emergency personnel were dispatched and the body of a female was recovered. Further investigation has confirmed that the body recovered is that of Lisa GIBSON. The investigation remains open and continues by members of the Homicide Unit. On behalf of the Gibson family the Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the public and media for their assistance and support during this difficult time. The family is now requesting an opportunity to deal with their loss in private. FIRE UPDATE / ARREST– C13-043558 As previously reported, on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the Children's Hospital in 800 block of Sherbrook Street for the report of a working fire. Responding members located a fire that was mainly contained to the open construction area adjacent to the hospital. Smoke from the fire did enter the Children's Hospital resulting in the evacuation of a large number of patients and staff members. No injuries were reported. Damage to the building was extensive and estimated at $1,000,000.00. This investigation continued by members of the Arson Strike Force and as a result a suspect was identified. On Saturday, July 27, 2013 investigators arrested a 16 year old male from Winnipeg. He was released via a Promise to Appear and is facing charges of: - Arson – Disregard to Human Life x 2
- Arson – Damage to property x 2
