Saturday, November 30, 2013 CHILD WELFARE INVESTIGATION – ARREST C13-245106 On November 28, 2013 at 11:40 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the Point Douglas area of the city to check on the wellbeing of children believed to have been left alone. Officers responded and confirmed that three children under the age of five years (two females, one male) had been left alone within the residence. It was also determined that three cats and two dogs were also present. After assessing the state of the residence, it was quickly determined that the conditions were unfit for habitation. The children are presently in care and the animals have been seized. A 24 year-old female is facing the following charges: Failing to provide the necessities of life to a child x 3 Forcible confinement x 3 Cruelty to animals She has been released on a Promise to Appear. The investigation is continuing by members of the Child Abuse Unit. SEXUAL ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON C13-245239 On November 29, 2013 at 5:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the report of a sexual assault incident that occurred in the William Whyte area involving a 31 year old female victim. The investigation has revealed that the victim was walking home near Salter Street and College Avenue when she encountered an unknown male. The male forced the victim to a secluded area at which time a sexual assault occurred. The suspect was armed with a weapon at the time of the incident. The victim fled to a nearby business at which time police were called. The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, large/stocky build, approximately 25 year-old and short hair. The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit.
