BREAK-IN AND ROBBERY INVESTIGATIONS – ARRESTS C14-21173
On January 28, 2014, at 12:45 p.m., a male and female suspect attended to the 100 block of Leighton Avenue and forced entry into an unoccupied home. While inside, the male suspect removed electronics and cash before fleeing in an awaiting vehicle occupied by the female suspect.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the couple attended to the 300 block of Helmsdale Avenue at which time the male suspect entered a garage and stole a small quantity property.
While the female suspect remained in the vehicle, the male suspect now armed and concealing his identity, forced entry into a home occupied by the homeowner. The resident awoke and was confronted by the suspect. It was at this time the victim was pushed to the floor and robbed of electronic devices. The suspects fled in a vehicle.
On January 29, 2014 at approximately 12:15 p.m., the suspects drove to the area of St. Anne's Road and Hull Avenue. While there, the male suspect exited the vehicle and forced entry into a residence located on Hull Avenue. Cash and electronics were stolen and the suspects fled.
A short time later, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the recent break-in. The suspects were located in their vehicle while in the area of the 800 block of St. Mary's Road.
The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.
Douglas SMITH, 42 years-old of Winnipeghas been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement: Break Enter & Commit – Dwelling House x 2, Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House and Disguise with Intent.
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
A 30 year-old female is facing the following offences: Break Enter & Commit – Dwelling House x 2 Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House and Possession of Break in Instruments.
She was released on a Promise to Appear.
GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS R14-0006256
On January 29, 2014 at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Marihuana Grow Operation Unit (MGO) with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Patrol members executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at a residence located in the 300 block of Polson Avenue.
Officers arrested a male as he departed the home and a second male was taken into custody after being located within the premises.
A search of the residence revealed the following:
224 marihuana plants – estimated street value - $250,000.00
4lbs. dry marihuana – estimated street value $10,000.00
Grow operation equipment – valued at $6,000.00
$2,000.00 cash
A 33 year-old male and 25 year-old male are facing the following offences:
Produce a scheduled substance – marihuana
Possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking – marihuana
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
Both males were released on a promise to appear.
