Homicide Arrest – C14-87001
On April 30, 2014 at approximately 3:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 1300 block of Elgin Avenue West regarding a male stabbed requiring assistance.
 
The male was located having injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased.
 
The deceased has been identified as: Adrian ACOBY, 25 years-old of Winnipeg.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim had become involved in a domestic related dispute. The confrontation escalated at which time a 20 year-old female produced a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit continued to investigate.
 
At approximately 5:25 p.m., Galena FLETT, 20 years-old of Winnipeg was located in a business on Main Street and arrested.
 
She has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
Commercial Robberies Arrest – C14-87014
On April 30, 2014 between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., officers responded to the reports of three robbery incidents that occurred at the following locations:
 

  • Convenience store  - 1800 block of Main Street
  • Fast food restaurant – 1100 block of Main Street
  • Convenience store – 1300 block of Main Street


During these occasions, the suspect would confront staff, indicate he was armed and demand cash. The suspect fled after obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.
 
A short time later, officers located the suspect in the area of Church Street and Charles Avenue.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
Carlos AREIA, 31 years-old of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with the following:
 
Robbery x 3
Breach Probation
Warrant – Fraud
 
He was remanded into custody.
   
 
Residential Robbery Investigation – C14-87032
On April 30, 2014 at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers responded to two business located in the 1500 block of Arlington Street and the 700 block of Mountain Avenue regarding two injured males.
 
The victims were located and transported to hospital. They are in stable condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that the incident originated at a residence located in the 700 block of Alfred Avenue. The victims were present when several armed males attacked the victims causing serious injuries.
 
The suspects, including the victims fled the area.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.

Suspicious Package – Public Assistance Required – C14-61697
On March 26, 2014 at approximately 11:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface regarding a suspicious package.  
 
Patrol members, the Winnipeg Fire Department and members of the WPS Bomb Unit were notified and attended.
 
As a result, the college was evacuated and the area was secured.
 
A backpack containing an unknown item was left in a stairwell by a suspicious male. 

At approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the Bomb Unit deemed the area safe and identified the contents of the backpack as a HILTI hammer drill. The drill was later confirmed to be stolen.
 
The investigation has revealed that an unknown male attended to the campus in possession of the backpack. The male left the backpack behind and eventually left the area.
 
The suspect was caught on surveillance and is described as:
 
Male
Caucasian
6'2" tall
Slim build
Dark navy blue ¾ length jacket w/hood
Dark pants and boots
Black toque – red and white stripes
Eyeglasses
Black mechanical gloves – tan or white patches
 
He left the area riding a red mountain bike. When leaving, he was observed to be wearing a black toque and baseball cap (khaki brown/green brim) underneath.
 
East District Patrol members continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact 204-986-2857 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
