Homicide Investigation – C14-101944
On May 18, 2014 at approximately 5:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue for the report of a male having been assaulted.
 
Upon arrival a male suffering serious injury was located and transported to hospital in critical condition.
 
Investigation to date has revealed that victim and a female were involved in a domestic situation which was witnessed by several bystanders in the immediate area.  One of the bystanders, concerned about the victim's actions and thus the safety of the female, approached the two in an effort to intervene.  As a result, the bystander became involved in a physical altercation with the victim.  During this altercation the victim was struck, resulting in his falling to the ground.
 
The bystander, who intervened on behalf of the female, then left prior to police arrival.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit have continued with the investigation.
 
On May 23, 2014 the victim succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Marlon Dean LARONDE (HART), 33 years of Winnipeg.
 
Investigators are requesting that the bystander and anyone else who may have witnessed the incident and not yet spoken with police to contact them at (204) 986-6508.
