Back to School Safety

The Winnipeg Police Service is committed to providing a safe educational environment in and around the 300 or more schools in the City of Winnipeg. The safety of our children is the responsibility of each and every one of us.

As we all know, September signifies the start of a new school year in our community. Beginning this week, our streets will soon be filled with children walking, biking, or being driven to school.  The Winnipeg Police Service, along with our public safety partners would like to remind all motorists to be aware that schools are once again open and children will be present. This includes being mindful of designated school zones, stopped school busses, and School Safety Patrols. Let's all do our part to prevent tragedies.

We would like to remind motorists that as of September 1st 2014, there are now designated 30km/h speed zones around selected Schools within Winnipeg.  These designated speed zones are an additional step taken to help shield our children from harm while at school.
