Break-In and Theft Investigations Update – 2nd Arrest
– C14-245828
As previously released, on October 31, 2014 at approximately 5:20 p.m., a male suspect attended to a hotel located in the 700 block of Main Street. While there, he waited for staff to leave the cash register unattended at which time he reached over the counter and removed an undisclosed amount of cash. He left unnoticed. 
 
On November 15, 2014 the same suspect attended to a jewellery store located in the 900 block of Main Street. While staff was distracted, the male reached behind the counter and removed two valuable rings without being seen. He then left the business. 
 
Surveillance footage of the theft was made public.
 
On November 17, 2014 between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., a pharmacy located in the 700 block of Main Street was broken into on two occasions. A window was smashed and a large quantity of medication was stolen. 
 
Due to the investigative efforts by Patrol members and District 3 Detectives, a suspect was identified and arrested on November 22, 2014.
 
The stolen rings and some of the medication were recovered.
 
Kyle Kenneth DESMARAIS, 30 years of Winnipeg was previously arrested and charged due to his alleged involvement.
 
The investigation continued and a second suspect was identified as being involved in the November 17th incidents.
 
On December 5th the suspect was located and arrested without incident.
 
Robert Shane CAMPBELL 35 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Break Enter & Theft x 2 and Fail to Comply Probation Order x 2 for his alleged involvement.

He was remanded into custody.
 
 
Mischief Arrests – C14-259428
On December 5, 2014 shortly after 6:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 500 block of Sherburn Street for the report of two suspicious males, one of them having been seen sitting in the complainant's vehicle.
 
Units attended and located the two males in the area of Garfield Street and Wolseley Avenue where they were arrested without incident.
 
Members of the West District Crime Unit continued with the investigation.  It was learned that over the previous 7 hours the two accused had been wandering about the neighbourhood breaking into vehicles, one garage and stealing property.
 
The two males, 19 & 14 years of age, both from Winnipeg have each been charged with the following for their alleged involvement:

  • Mischief Under $5000.00 x 14
  • Break Enter & Commit
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
  • Theft Under $5000.00

The 19-year old has also been charged with Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition.
 
Both were detained in custody.
