Westwood Collegiate Students Raising Awareness of Distracted Driving
On Wednesday, May 20th at 1:30 p.m., the students from the (Teens Against Drunk/Distracted Driving) T.A.D.D. group at John Taylor Collegiate, located at 470 Hamilton Avenue, will be enacting a mock vehicle crash to raise awareness on the dangers of distracted driving.

To make the event as realistic as possible, the mock crash site will utilize a damaged vehicle provided by Manitoba Public Insurance, as well as student actors from the John Taylor drama club.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Unit, along with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will be in attendance. A simulated emergency response exercise will be performed to demonstrate how quickly a tragedy can occur when drivers make the choice to utilize their phones while driving.

Distracted driving remains a concern for all road safety authorities. On average, one in four road deaths in Manitoba are attributed to distracted driving. We are pleased to support MPI and John Taylor Collegiate to reduce the number of collisions and deaths caused by distracted drivers.

Winnipeg Police Chief Devon Clunis has stated: "Front-line officers will be sending the strong message that distracted driving is not acceptable".
