Homicide Investigation Update – Victim Identified – C15-100097
As previously released, on May 17, 2015, just after 1:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 400 block of Tremblay Street for the report of a check the wellbeing call.


Attending officers located the caller within her residence in an intoxicated state at which time she was taken into custody.  An injured dog was located and transported to a veterinary hospital.
 
Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, a canvass of the area was performed.  As a result of the canvass, a deceased female was located in a nearby residence.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.  It was learned that sometime between the late evening of May 16th and 1:30 a.m. on the 17th; the accused, an acquaintance of the victim, entered her residence and stabbed her multiple times about the body.  The accused then returned home where she attacked the dog.
 
Family notifications have been made and the victim has been identified as Dorothy DYKENS, 89 years of Winnipeg.
 
Melissa Joyce GABRIEL, 35 years of Winnipeg was charged with Manslaughter, Killing or Injuring Other Animals and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2 for her alleged involvement and was detained in custody.
