Winnipeg Crime Stopper Publication Fundraiser Approach A Scam
 

 

Crime Stoppers has been alerted that Winnipeg businesses are being approached by a telephone solicitor pretending to represent Winnipeg Crime Stoppers. The caller attempts to garner funds for advertisements in a publication supposedly supporting Winnipeg Crime Stoppers.
 
Do not transfer any funds to this solicitor. Although the approach sounds legitimate it is not. There is no publication fundraiser for Winnipeg Crime Stoppers.  Winnipeg Crime Stoppers does not raise funds through this method. Anyone being approached by this solicitor is urged to contact the Winnipeg Police Service or Winnipeg Crime Stoppers.
 
Anyone with information about a crime can contact Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), on-line at http://www.winnipegcrimestoppers.org/ or through text messages at TIP 170 CRIMES.
 
Crime Stoppers pays the tipster up to $2,000 if the tip leads to the solution of the crime. Anonymity is guaranteed. Tipsters never have to reveal their identity.
