41st ANNUAL SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL  AWARDS:
 
The Winnipeg Police Service hosted the 41st Annual School Safety Patrol Awards ceremony this morning at the Convention Centre.
 
Since 1936, the Winnipeg Police Service has been involved in the School Safety Patrol Program.  Winnipeg is proud to have had the first fully organized and officially recognized school patrol program in Canada.  The School Safety Patrol Program is beginning its 79th year.
 
Every year the patrols are judged on their ability, professionalism and technique while on patrol by the School Education Section of the Winnipeg Police Service.
 
In 2015, there were approximately 7,000 patrols ensuring our children arrive safely to their schools everyday here in Winnipeg.
 
 
The top four City-Wide School Patrol teams are as follows:
 
1st Place (CAA Manitoba Trophy) : Ecole Lacerte – Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine
 
2nd Place (Winnipeg Free Press Trophy): Ecole Victoria-Albert School – Winnipeg School Division – Inner District
 
3rd Place (Manitoba Public Insurance Trophy): Lakewood SchoolSt. James-Assiniboia School Division
 
4th Place (Winnipeg Police Service Trophy):  Ecole Laura Secord School – Winnipeg School Division – Central District  
 
 
Most Improved School Patrol Team (CAA Manitoba Trophy): St. Charles Catholic School– Private School Division
 
Louise Staples Nomination Award
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2015 Louise Staples Award is Kaitlin Rempel from Victory School – Seven Oaks School Division.
 
The award is named in honour of Louise Staples, a teacher at Greenway School who was instrumental in starting up the program in Winnipeg, is presented annually to school patrol captain deemed to be the most efficient is his or her role.
