Child Abuse Imagery Arrest – C15-25033
In February, 2015, a 37-year-old male employed by a local youth support organization used his work phone to text one of his co-workers. While doing so, it's alleged that he inadvertently sent an image of a nude female, believed to be 7-8 years-of age.

The recipient of the image immediately notified his supervisors, who in-turn notified members of the Winnipeg Police Service. The suspect was terminated from his position.

Members of the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit became involved and continued with the investigation.

Investigators confirmed the identity of the suspect and on June 9, 2015 he was arrested

The 37-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

Possession of Child Pornography
Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
Access any Child Pornography

He was released on a Promise to Appear.

Extortion Arrest – C15-69216
Between April 5th and April 7th, 2015, a 42-year-old male made contact with a 36-year-old female on a dating website.

Soon after, they began having further conversations via text messages and decided to meet for dinner. The male indicated that he was supposed to leave on a flight, but would consider changing it if she would pay half the cost to do so. He indicated that by her sharing the cost would confirm that she was genuine.
The male went on to describe himself as a lawyer and someone who is well-off financially. Both of which were false.

Numerous texts went back and forth when the suspect told the victim that she needed to pay him because they had an agreement. If she didn't, he would contact a police officer friend who works in the Fraud Department. The suspect went as far as having a friend call the victim while posing a police officer and threatening her if she didn't pay the money.

Text messages continued and arrangements were made for the suspect to pick up the money. Soon after, the victim requested to be repaid. He then began requesting more money from her to help pay for his phone bill due to all of the texting they have been involved in. She refused, at which time the suspect threatened to call police again. Out of fear, the victim complied and provided more money.

The victim contacted police and members of the West District Crime Unit continued to investigate. The suspect was identified and on June 9, 2015, the 42-year-old male was arrested at his residence located in the City of Winnipeg. He is facing the following charges:

Extortion x 2

He was released on a Promise to Appear.
