Immigration Warrant Arrest – C15-149398
On July 17, 2015, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit were contacted by law enforcement from the Ohio, USA area regarding an on-going investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse imagery.

Investigators learned that a warrant had been executed in Ohio where a significant quantity of child sexual abuse imagery was located. Authorities determined that the suspect was the Winnipeg area on business.

The Winnipeg Police Service in collaboration with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) located and arrested a David ECCLES, 42 years of North Olmsted, Ohio on July 17, 2015 near a hotel in the downtown area of Winnipeg. The male is facing criminal charges in the U.S. related to the possession/distribution of child sexual abuse imagery.

He remains in the custody of the CBSA.


Sexual Assault Investigation – C15-154377
On July 24, 2015, shortly before 2:30 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a sexual assault that had just occurred in the area of Niagara Street and Kingsway.

Officers met with the 19-year-old victim who advised that she had just been dropped off when an unknown male appeared and ran up to her.  He then proceeded to commit a sexual assault upon her after which he fled on a bicycle.

The suspect is described as: Caucasian male with pale skin, 25-35 years of age, 5'4" tall with a thin to medium build.  He had thin lips, pointy nose and chin, dark blonde to strawberry blonde facial hair and a possible goatee.  The bike is described as being a small, dark coloured BMX style.

The investigation is continuing by members of the West District Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2877 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Residential Break & Enter Arrests – C15-153674
On July 23, 2015, at approximately 3:30 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of person(s) unknown in the complainant's garage in the 200 block of Sheffield Road.  Several units flooded the area and, with the assistance Canine, four suspects were located and arrested without incident.

Members of the West District Crime Unit continued with the investigation.  It was determined that the four accused, along with one outstanding suspect, were responsible for eleven separate incidents.  They include:

  • 1st 100 block of Vineland Cr – bicycle stolen from attached garage
  • 1st 100 block of Vineland Cr – vehicle stolen from front drive
  • 200 block of Vineland Cr – parked vehicle entered / nothing stolen
  • 1st 100 block of Vineland Cr – vehicle entered / bicycle stolen from within
  • 100 block of Vineland Cr – parked vehicle entered / nothing stolen
  • 100 block of Georgetown Dr – vehicles and garage entered / contents stolen
  • 1st 100 block of Caldwell Cr – vehicles entered / change stolen
  • 100 block of Sheffield Rd – vehicle entered / property stolen
  • 1st 100 block of Sheffield Rd – vehicle entered / nothing stolen
  • 100 block of Sheffield Rd – vehicle and garage entered / bicycle stolen
  • 200 block of Sheffield Rd – vehicle and garage entered / property stolen

The vehicle and majority of stolen property was recovered.

A 20-year-old male, along with a 14-year-old male and two 13-year-old males, all of Winnipeg, have been charged with numerous property related offences for their alleged involvement.

All were detained in custody.

Investigators are currently looking for a 14-year-old female who will be facing similar charges.
