Bomb Investigation Update - C15-138922 &
C15-139825

As previously released, on July 3, 2015, at approximately 10:15 the Winnipeg Police received reports of ‎shots fired or a possible explosion at a law firm in the 200 block of River Avenue.

Maria Mitousis, 38 years, was located suffering from injuries to her upper body as a result of an apparent explosive device. She was transported to hospital in critical condition where she now remains in stable condition.

Several units including the Bomb Unit, Tactical Support Team and uniform members attended.

Investigators believed this to be an isolated incident and did not consider it to be a continuing threat to the general public.

The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

On July 4, 2015, shortly after 2:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a business in the 500 block of Washington Avenue for the report of a suspicious package.

Multiple units were dispatched and the area surrounding the incident location was shut down to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.  Members of the Bomb Unit attended and at approximately 10:40 p.m. successfully deactivated the package which contained an unknown material that detonated during the process.  No one was injured; however there was extensive damage to the business.  Police remain on scene.

Investigators have confirmed a link between the Washington Avenue business and the River Avenue explosion at the Peterson King law firm.

A 49-year-old male was taken into custody last evening.  Interviews are on-going and no charges have been laid.

The investigation is on-going by members of the Major Crimes Unit and continues to advance.

This afternoon police are in attendance at two locations: a business on Springfield Road, and a residence on Pandora Avenue. Search warrants are being executed with the assistance of Bomb Unit personnel from the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP. Some residents around the Pandora Avenue location have been evacuated as a precaution. Public movement will also be restricted at the Springfield Road location. Police are not aware of any specific information regarding explosives at either of these locations; however, we are taking no chances in light of the discoveries on River Avenue and Washington Avenue.
