Sudden Death Investigation C15-193038 As previously released -On September 13, 2015 at approximately 10:20 a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 400 block of Lanark Street regarding a deceased male being located.
The deceased has been identified as a 62-year-old male resident. Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continued the investigation.
As a result of the investigation and the outcome of a post-mortem, it has been determined that foul play is not suspected.
Notifications have been made and no further information will be provided.
Update - Officer Injured Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation Suspect Arrested - C15-192639 As previously released -On September 12, 2015 at approximately 8:25 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were engaged in the RoadWatch program on Waverley Street near Lake Crest Road when an officer encountered a male operating a Buick Century.
An Alcohol Screening Device (ASD) was administered and once completed, it was determined that the driver had failed.
It was at this time, the driver sped off while the officer made efforts to stop the suspect from fleeing. The officer was dragged along the roadway causing non-life threatening injuries.
The driver continued his erratic behaviour by driving his vehicle on Lake Crest Road and colliding with a median causing substantial damage. The driver abandoned the vehicle in the 1200 block of Chancellor Drive and fled the area on foot.
The officer was transported to hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
The investigation continued by members of the Central Traffic Unit. As a result, a Canada-Wide Warrant was issued for Gregory Blaine MARTIN, 42-years-old.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on September 15th investigators located MARTIN in the Brooklands-Weston area of Winnipeg where he was taken into custody without incident. For his alleged involvement MARTIN has been charged with the following: - Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence
- Uttering Threats
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Cause Bodily Harm
- Driving While Ability Impaired
- Flight Cause Bodily Harm while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance x 2
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking
- (HTA) Drive without driver's liability insurance
- (HTA) Drive without licence or with invalid licence
- (HTA) Fail to remain at the scene of an accident and exchange particulars x 3
He was detained in custody.
