Homicide Investigation Update - Charge Upgraded - C15-101966
As previously released, on May 19, 2015, shortly before 6:00 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1st 100 block of Cheltenham Cove for the report of an injured female.

Officers attending to the scene arrived to find a female suffering from injuries to her upper body, which she later succumbed to.  She was identified as Kathleen LEARY of Winnipeg.

Initial reports that a residential break & enter or home invasion had occurred were unfounded.

The investigation continued by members of the Homicide and Forensic Identification Units.

A youth from Winnipeg, who was known to the victim, had been charged with Second Degree Murder for his alleged involvement.

After further investigation and review, a charge of 1st Degree Murder was authorized by the Crown and a warrant of arrest for the accused was issued.

On December 9, 2015, the accused was arrested on the strength of the warrant and later returned to custody.


Firearms Arrest – C15-259765
On December 10, 2015, shortly before 1:00 a.m. uniform members were in the area of Aikins Street and Anderson Avenue where they encountered a male known to possibly carry firearms.

As officers exited the cruiser, the male turned and fled.  During the foot chase he was seen to throw a firearm, later determined to be a sawed off .22 calibre rifle, into a yard.  After the foot pursuit, which lasted several minutes, the male was taken into custody without incident.

Subsequent search resulted in the seizure of 26 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition and a collapsible baton.

Joshua Ryan DUPRAT, 31 years of Lac Du Bonnet, Mb has been charged with several weapon related offences for his alleged involvement.

He was detained in custody.
