Attempted Murder Arrest - C16-0000537
On January 1, 2016 at approximately 2:00 a.m., a couple began arguing outside a nightclub located in the 500 block of Portage Avenue. The dispute continued at which time the 22-year-old female victim was forced into a vehicle by her 31-year-old male common-law partner.

The suspect proceeded to drive with the victim in the front passenger seat. The victim was assaulted repeatedly in the upper body.

The suspect continued to threaten the safety of the victim when he began operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner. It's alleged that he intentionally guided the passenger side of the vehicle (where the victim was situated) towards a parked semi-trailer in the area of Arlington Street and St. Matthews Avenue, causing a serious collision.

After the collision, the suspect fled the vehicle on foot leaving the injured victim trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency personnel responded and the victim was eventually rescued utilizing the Jaws of Life. She is in stable condition.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., Christopher RUTHERFORD, 31-years-old was located and placed under arrest. Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit continued to investigate and charged him with numerous offences which include the following:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm x 2
  • Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another Person
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Kidnapping
  • Uttering Threats x 2
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance x 5
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

  He was remanded into custody.


     
Robbery Investigation Arrests – C15-273914
Between December 31, 2015 and January 2, 2016, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were made aware and responded to numerous robberies, assaults and property damage incidents, all of which occurring in the area of William Avenue and Isabel Street.

It was later determined that a male and female suspect were involved. 

The incidents are as follows:

December 31st – Suspects rob and threaten to kill a cab driver in the area of William Avenue and Ellen Street.

January 1st – Male suspect robs and stabs cab driver in the upper body while in the area of Elgin Avenue and Gertie Street. Minor injury sustained.

January 1st – Male suspect damages vehicle on Elgin Avenue, then threatens to kill owner.

January 1st – Numerous parked vehicles in the area of Elgin Avenue and Ellen Street are damaged. An area resident is stabbed. Minor injury reported. 

January 1st – Armed male suspect robs cab driver in the area of William Avenue and Isabel Street.     

The investigation continued involving members of the Forensic Services Unit.

On January 2, 2016 at approximately 7:30 p.m., both suspects attended to a convenience store located at William Avenue and Isabel Street. The armed suspects confronted a customer and attempted to rob her. As a result, police were summoned and both suspects were located and apprehended near Isabel Street and Bannatyne Avenue a short time later.

Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit continued to investigate.

Kevin SCHOFFER, 21-years-oldhas been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement: Robbery x 3, Wear Disguise with Intent, Assault with a Weapon x 3, Utter Threats to kill, Possession of a Weapon x 2, Mischief Under $5000.00 x 6, Fail to Comply Recognizance x 6 and Fail to Comply Probation Order x 5.

He was remanded into custody

A 16-year old female has also been charged with the following and remanded into custody: Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon and Uttering Threats.


Male Wanted – Randy Terrance RYLE C15-134281 C15-272811
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating 28-year-old, Randy Terrance RYLE. RYLE is currently wanted regarding an on-going domestic related investigation.

He is described as: male, 5'9" tall, 151 pounds, thin build and short black hair.


     


The investigation is continuing by members of the West District Crime Unit.
