Arson Arrest – C16-53565
On March 16, 2016, shortly before 4:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 600 block of McGee Street for the report of a working fire in a multi-unit residence.

Upon arrival, several people were found to have self-evacuated.  A male was taken into custody.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Fire Investigations Branch and the Winnipeg Police Service Arson Unit continued with the investigation.

No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $500,000.00.

Lawrence Patrick AKERLEY, 45 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following for his alleged involvement:

  • Arson with Disregard for Human Life
  • Arson Causing Damage to Property
  • Possession of Incendiary Material

He was detained in custody.
