Child Abuse Imagery Arrest – R16-0009171
During the month of January 2016, Cantonal Police of Zurich and Aargau, Switzerland were involved in an online investigation into the distribution of child pornography.
   
As a result of the undercover investigation, it was determined that an unknown person utilizing an IP address located in the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba was in possession of and making available to other users files containing child pornography.
   
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit were notified and continued the investigation.
   
On March 22, 2016, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence located on Renfrew Street. During that time, several electronic devices were seized for further examination involving members of the Technological Crimes Unit.
   
The investigation revealed numerous videos and images of Child Pornography. These images were of children between the ages of 2-12 years.
   
On May 5, 2016 at 8:00 a.m., Andrew HARRISON, 36 years of Winnipeg was arrested and charged due to his alleged involvement:
   

  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Access any Child Pornography
  • Imports, Distributes, Sells, or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
  • Bestiality

 
He was remanded into custody.
   
   
Grow Operation Arrest – R16-22384
On May, 5, 2016, members of the Marihuana Grow Operation Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Patrol members executed two Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrants at residences located in the 500 block of Balmoral Avenue and 500 block of Elgin Avenue.
   
  A search of the Balmoral Avenue location revealed the following:
   

  • 364 marihuana plants – estimated street value of $418,880.00

 
A search of the Elgin Avenue location exposed remnants of stored and packaged marihuana.
   

  • Total proceeds of crime seized - $1,045.00

 
A 61-year-old male was arrested and is facing the following charges: Produce a Scheduled Substance x 2, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possess Proceeds of Crime.
   
He was released on a promise to appear.
   
   
Fire – C16-89867
On May 6, 2016 at approximately 1:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 300 block of Hudson Street regarding a working garage fire.
   
The fire was extinguished by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. As a result damage to property (garage/duplex) is estimated at $500,000.00.
   
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Members of the Arson Unit have been notified and continue to investigate.
