Impaired Driving Arrest Assisted by Air1 – C16-91450
On May 8, 2016 at approximately 1:10 a.m., Patrol members observed a GMC Terrain being operated in an unsafe manner while in the area of Osborne Street and Granite Way. As a result, a traffic stop was initiated.
   
The driver failed to stop and proceeded northbound onto Edmonton Street from Broadway. The driver was then observed to operate the GMC Terrain at a high speed, disregarding several traffic control devices and having no regard for public safety. The suspect vehicle was observed to be travelling at approximately 110km/hr.   
   
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Flight Operations Unit, Air1 became involved and maintained visual contact with the suspect vehicle while collaborating with units on the ground.
   
In attempt to evade police further, the suspect eventually made his way to the area of the first 100 block of Clonard Avenue and parked the vehicle. Air1 continued visual contact with the suspect as he attempted to flee the area on foot.
   
Moments later, the male was taken into custody by Patrol members.
   
A 26 year old male is facing numerous charges:
   

  • Drive while Ability Impaired
  • Drive with More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood
  • Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
  • HTA – Drive without licence or with invalid licence

 
He remains in custody at this time.
