Stolen Vehicle Arrest – C16-122745
On June 14, 2016 at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a stolen Infinity G35 being operated in the area of Main Street and Stella Avenue by a lone male occupant. Officers attempted a traffic stop however the driver refused to comply and sped off.
     
A few minutes later, officers again noted the stolen vehicle while in the area of Main Street and Jefferson Avenue. Efforts to safely stop the stolen vehicle were made. The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed in a northbound direction. A pursuit was initiated involving Patrol members and Air1.   
     
The suspect proceeded through several red lights having no regard for public safety. Further efforts to stop the vehicle were made by the deployment of a Tire Deflation Device. While officers were doing so in the area of Henderson Highway and the Perimeter, the suspect slowed down and suddenly drove in their direction, narrowly missing them. The suspect continued northbound toward Lockport, Manitoba.
     
Once in Lockport, Manitoba, the suspect turned around and proceeded back to the City of Winnipeg. Officers continued to follow.
     
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service deployed additional Tire Deflation Devices and successfully disabled two tires on the suspect vehicle. The suspect continued southbound on Henderson Highway while driving in an erratic manner.
     
The vehicle was contained in the area of Talbot Avenue and Watt Street at approximately midnight. The male suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
     
Peter Jordon GIESBRECHT, 21 years old of Steinbach, Manitoba has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
     
    Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
    Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
    Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
    Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
    Possession of a Weapon
    Fail to Comply with Probation Order
    HTA – Drive while Disqualified
     
He was remanded into custody.
     
Firearm Arrest – C16-122005    On June 14, 2016 at approximately 4:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Canine Unit were patrolling in the area of Logan Avenue and Ellen Street when a suspicious male was observed.
     
Members of the Canine Unit with the assistance of Patrol members pursued the male who was now running through yards making efforts to evade police.
     
The suspect was arrested in the area of the 200 block of Laura Street and found to be in an intoxicated state. Further investigation revealed that the male was in possession of a previously stolen loaded 22 calibre rifle and ammunition.
     
Enrique George COURCHENE, 22 years of Winnipeg has been charges with numerous firearm related offences.    
        
He was remanded into custody.
 
   

Firearm Arrest – 122507
On June 14, 2016 at approximately 5:40 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service Cadets came into contact with a male having a medical emergency at the rear of the 300 block of Portage Avenue. While assisting the male, Cadets observed the male to be in possession of ammunition. Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of a handgun.
     
The firearm was previously stolen in Winnipeg dating back to September 2015.
     
A 36 year old male has been charged with several firearm related offences. He was remanded into custody.
     
       
     
Update - Commercial Robbery Investigation – C16-121664
As previously released - On June 13, 2016 at approximately 7:00 p.m., two male suspects entered a pharmacy located in the 400 block of Tache Avenue while concealing their identity and confronted several staff.
     
The suspects demanded and fled with an undisclosed amount of narcotics after threatening to harm the employees.
     
They were observed to flee in a newer model Jeep Wrangler. Both males are described as Aboriginal in appearance, in their 20's and short dark hair.
     
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
