Extortion Investigation  - Arrest – C16-121659
Two women are facing charges as a result of an investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service Counter-exploitation Unit.

- Simple MEHTA, 39-years-old is charged with Extortion, Procuring and Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
- Pam SANDHU, 22-years-old is charged with Extortion, Voyeurism, Sexual Assault and Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence

The accused were both remanded into custody.

The investigation was initiated on June 13, 2016. The victim, a 29-year-old male, had been in an existing business relationship with the owner of a beauty spa located in the 700 block of St. Anne's Road. The victim had attended the spa on a separate business matter, and was offered a massage by an employee while he waited for the owner.

Once the victim had prepared himself for the massage, he was sexually assaulted and discovered he was being video recorded during the assault. At this point the victim was extorted out of a sum of money with the threat that the video recording would be released.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Counter Exploitation Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-3464 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Arson Investigation – C16-126527
On June 19, 2016, at approximately 11:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services responded to a report of fire in the 1000 block of Regent Avenue.

It appears that a break-in occurred prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Damage is estimated at approximately $15,000.

While conducting a follow-up investigation six members of the Winnipeg Police Service were exposed to a hazardous chemical while in the building. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Hazmat Unit attended treated the victims. None of the officers required hospitalization.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6813 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
