Tuesday, September 20, 2016 Assault Peace Officer/Robbery Arrest: C16195968 On September 11, 2016 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a male suspect went to a convenience store in the 800 block of Ellice Avenue. After selecting assorted merchandise he attempted to leave the store when he was confronted by an employee. The suspect produced a knife, threatened the employee, and fled with the items. The employee was not injured. On September 19, 2016 at approximately 4:20 p.m. the suspect went to a pawn shop located in the 600 block of Ellice. The suspect selected a cell phone, but refused to provide payment. When pressed to provide payment he produced a knife and threatened the employee. The suspect fled with the smart phone. The employee was not injured. Later that day at approximately 6:30 p.m. patrolling officers spotted the suspect in the 400 Young Street. As he was approached the suspect produced a knife and attempted to slash both officers. Police were forced to deploy a Conducted Energy Device in order to disarm the suspect and take him into custody. Neither officer was injured. Charles Wilfred THOMPSON, 38 years, of Winnipeg has been charged with the numerous offences including: - Assault Peace Officer with Weapon x 2 - Obstruct Peace Officer - Robbery x 2 - Carry Concealed Weapon x 2 Thompson was detained in custody. Firearm Investigation Arrest: C16-195418 On September 18, 2016 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of the sound of shots fired in the 400 block of Bannerman Avenue. Numerous police units from two separate districts, along with members of the Tactical Support Team responded. At approximately 12:30 a.m. members of the Tactical Support Team entered a single family residence in the 400 block of Bannerman Avenue. Officers located a fully loaded shotgun and ammunition within the house. It was determined that the shotgun had been fired multiple times in the rear yard of the residence. There was no injury or damage from the discharge. A 20-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested and detained in custody.
