Monday, February 27, 2017 Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Arrests - C17-0040943 On February 26, 2017 at approximately 2:30 p.m., District 3 Community Support Unit members were patrolling in the area of Boyd Avenue and Powers Street when they observed an injured male staggering down the street. It was determined that the victim had been assaulted in the upper body by another male believed to be in the area. Officers located the male suspect armed with a bat in front of the 400 block of Boyd Avenue. The suspect was advised to drop the weapon numerous times which he refused. He then began walking toward officers and challenging them while still armed with the bat. A Conducted Electrical Weapon (Taser) was deployed, however ineffective. The suspect continued his aggressive and non-compliant behaviour toward officers. He was eventually disarmed however the suspect proceeded to physically assault officers in the upper body. During the confrontation, the suspect reached for and obtained a Winnipeg Police Service issued CEW (Taser) and subsequently pointed it in the direction of an officer. The CEW (Taser) was deployed, however due to the officer's quick reaction it narrowly missed striking him in the upper body. The suspect was taken into custody. A female suspect attempted to interfere with officers and was also placed under arrest. Both officers sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from hospital.
