13th Annual Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay and 5K race!

On Sunday, May 7th, come cheer on 2900 runners in this year's 13th annual

Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay and 5K race!

Whether they're running to beat their time, to honour a loved one or to show cancer who's boss; our runners have their heads in the right place.

All monies raised from this year's event will be going to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of brain cancer research.  The money will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by Brain Canada through the Canada Brain Research Fund, a public-private partnership established by the Government of Canada.

Brain cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths among youth and young adults. The overall survival rate for all cancers is 63%, while the relative survival rate of brain cancer is 25%.  Brain cancer represents some of the most aggressive forms of cancer, making it difficult to destroy.

The event is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. in front of the baseball diamonds in Assiniboine Park. The 5K will take off at 8:10 a.m. Both starts will enjoy an exciting send off with a fly-pass of a Canadian Forces C130 Hercules aircraft.

The Winnipeg Police Service's helicopter, AIR1, will be on site for public viewing.

Members of the public are invited to cheer runners on along the route or at the finish line. Supporters are welcome to join in the pancake breakfast at the race site through a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

1st leg: Runners will head south on Locomotive Drive and Formal Garden Way to make their way out of the park. The runners will then proceed north on Park Boulevard North then east on Wellington Crescent (in the westbound lanes) to Guelph Street (turn-around point) where they will return west on Wellington Crescent and then north over the train footbridge at Empress Street, continue west on the north side of the river on Wolseley Avenue West, under the Route 90 overpass to Riverbend Crescent, Assiniboine Avenue; north on Douglas Park Road then west on Portage Avenue in the eastbound traffic curb lane.
