Missing Person Investigation: C17-184556
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 73-year-old male, Franjo Sankovic.
Sankovic was last seen on August 18, 2017, at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a residence in the Heritage Park area of St. JamesAssiniboia. It is believed he may have left the area on foot.
He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, approximately 6'0", having a medium build and short white hair. He may be wearing a white polo shirt, blue pants, brown leather shoes and has a medical bag attached to his leg.
No picture is available at this time.
Police are concerned for Sankovic's well-being and are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-6222.
Stabbing Investigation: C17-184612
On August 18, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a Division 11 General Patrol unit was flagged down in the area of Sargent Avenue and McMicken Street for a report of an injured male.
Officers located an adult male who had been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Missing Person Update: C17-182123
As previously released:
On August 15, 2017, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Winnipeg Police were called to the Red River, just north of the Redwood Bridge in regards to a youth male who entered the river. A witness advised that the male swam half way across the river before he disappeared.
Officers conducted an extensive search with the assistance of WFPS Water Rescue and River Patrol which was unsuccessful. General patrol officers further searched the opposite river bank to determine if the male possibly made it across and exited the water however no evidence of this was seen.
The Winnipeg Police Dive Unit is continuing its search of the river.
On August 18, 2017, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the body of the male was recovered from the Red River.
The Winnipeg Police Service wishes to thank the public for the assistance. No further information will be released at this time.
