Child Sexual Abuse Imagery – Arrest: R17-68661   
On August 25th, 2017, the Winnipeg Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit was notified of an investigation involving police authorities in Australia including the South Australia Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.
   
The ICE unit continued with an investigation and learned that between January 2017 and early August 2017, a 6-year-old victim was sexually assaulted at a residence in East Kildonan. Images of the sexual assaults were subsequently shared using an online messaging application with various users.
   
The arrest of a male in Australia was critical to identifying a suspect.
   
At approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the ICE and Child Abuse units located the victim and the suspect at the residence in the East Kildonan area. A series of search warrants were executed and numerous electronic devices were seized.
   
A 28-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
   
  - Possession of Child Pornography
  - Invitation to Sexual Touching
  - Makes, Prints, Publishes or Poss for the Purpose of Publication any Child Pornography - - Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possession for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
  - Sexual Assault
  - Sexual Interference
   
He was detained in custody.
   
Robbery/Aggravated Assault – Arrests: C17-191576   
On August 27, 2017, at approximately 2:45 p.m. a number of young individuals were at a skate park in the 500 block of St. Annes Road when two groups began to befriend each other.
   
They then left the skate park and went to a nearby wooded area and which time the members of one group attempted to rob the members of the other group.
   
One victim, a 14-year-old male, was able to flee the area as another victim, a 16-year-old male, gave up his bicycle and undisclosed property. A second 14-year-old male was assaulted in the upper body with a machete causing significant injuries to his upper body including his face. The suspects then fled the area.
   
General Patrol unit members attended and arrested an 18-year-old suspect in the area of Poplarwood Avenue and St. George Road.
   
This investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
   
On August 28th, 2017, at approximately 12:15 a.m., a 17-year-old suspect was placed under arrest at his residence in the Glenwood area.
   
At 1:15 a.m., a second 17-year-old suspect was placed under arrest at his residence in the Sir John Franklin area.
   
Brendan James Jackson, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg,has been charged with:
   
  - Aggravated Assault
  - Robbery (x3)
  - Possession of a Scheduled Substance (Marijuana)
  - Fail to Comply with Sentence
   
  A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
   
  - Aggravated Assault
  - Robbery (x3)
  - Fail to Comply with Sentence (x4)
   
A second 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
   
  - Aggravated Assault
  - Robbery (x3)
  - Fail to Comply with Sentence
   
They were detained in custody.
   
Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C17-191193   
On August 27, 2017, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a male had been rummaging through a garbage bin and throwing waste on the ground in the first 100 block of Carlton Street when he was confronted by an adult male victim who lived in the area.
   
At this time, the suspect male armed himself with a weapon and seriously assaulted the victim in an unprovoked manner. The victim sustained significant injuries to his upper body and was knocked unconscious.
   
An adult female heard the assault taking place and exited a nearby building with an adult male security guard. Together, they attempted to stop the assault and provide first aid to the injured male but were assaulted by the male with a weapon as well. The victim female and security guard then fled back into a building.
   
Using the weapon, the suspect began to damage both a door of the building and a vehicle that had been parked in the area. He then attempted to flee the area but was chased by the security guard and a passer-by.
   
The suspect entered a nearby building in the first 100 block of Carlton Street and was placed under arrest by General Patrol unit members.
   
The injured male was transported to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition. The injured female was taken to hospital and suffered injuries to her head. She has since been released. The injured security guard suffered minor injuries.
   
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
   
Michael Thomas Kerr, a 52-year-old male of Winnipeg,has been charged with:
   
  - Aggravated Assault
  - Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  - Assault with a Weapon
  - Possession of a Weapon
  - Mischief under $5,000 (x2)
   
  He was detained in custody.

Homicide Investigation – Update: C17-184612
   
As previously released:
   
On August 18, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a Division 11 General Patrol unit was flagged down in the area of Sargent Ave. and McMicken St. for a report of an injured male.
   
Officers located an adult male who had been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains.
   
Members of the Major Crimes Unit have learned that after being stabbed, the victim stumbled onto the roadway at Sargent Avenue near Langside Street where he collapsed.  He may have appeared intoxicated rather than injured. Investigators believe that both pedestrians and occupants of vehicles traveling on Sargent Avenue may have seen the victim as he struggled to remain on his feet.
   
The victim has been identified as an 18-year-old male. He remains in hospital at this time.
   
On August 27, 2017, the victim in this matter succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Tyler William Ranville, an 18-year-old of Winnipeg.
   
This investigation is now continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
