Wednesday, October 11, 2017 Serious Motor Vehicle Collision: C17-228748 On October 10, 2017 at approximately 9:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Portage Ave. and Sherbrook St. An adult female was taken to hospital in unstable condition where she was stabilized. Upon further assessment by medical staff, it was determined that the female's injuries were more serious than originally believed. As a result, members of the Winnipeg Police Central Traffic Collision Investigation Unit returned to the scene for examination. The injured female remains in hospital, in stable condition. The driver of the motor vehicle, identified as an off duty officer, remained at scene. He advised that was travelling east-bound on Portage Avenue when he struck a pedestrian. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified and continues to investigate. Update: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision - Arrest: C17-229308 As previously released: On October 10, 2017 at approximately 8:00 p.m. emergency services responded to the area of Main Street and Sutherland Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. An adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation has led to the arrest of an off duty Winnipeg Police officer. The Independent Investigations Unit was notified immediately and took control of the investigation. Members of the Central Traffic Collision Investigation Unit are assisting the investigation under the direction of the Independent Investigation Unit. The investigation has revealed that at approximately 8:00 p.m. an adult male was crossing Main St from West to East in the area of Main St. and Sutherland Ave. when he was struck by a motor vehicle. On October 10, 2017 Constable Justin Holz, 34-years-old of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with Drive While Ability Impaired Causing Death and Failure to Stop at the Scene of Accident Involving Death. He has been released on a Promise to Appear in court.
