West End Biz - New Safety Guide for Crime Prevention
The Winnipeg Police Service has partnered with the West End BIZ and the Winnipeg Committee for Safety to produce the latest edition of "Partners in Prevention", a Crime Prevention & Safety Awareness Guide for Businesses & Their Employees.
The guide is a hands-on educational resource providing valuable information to help prevent businesses and individuals from becoming a victim of crime. Safety Initiatives and a "Who do you call?" reference sheet of critical contact numbers is included in the guide.
The guide is now available for anyone to download at no cost from the BIZ's website, Partners in Prevention. Hardcopies are available at the BIZ office - 581 Portage Avenue.
Commercial Robbery Arrest: C17-262879
On November 21, 2017, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred at a convenience store in the 100 block of Salter Street. A male suspect threatened staff and stole a number of items. The suspect exited the store and then returned to steal additional items.
The same suspect attempted to return to the store a third time, however, staff had locked the door. The suspect threatened staff and left.
The suspect then went to a gas bar across the street and attempted to gain entry but was unsuccessful. The male threatened staff, and broke a window. The suspect was restrained by staff who turned him over to responding officers.
At some point after leaving the first store the suspect attempted to rob a female in the area of her car, but was not successful. The victim fled the area. Investigators would like to speak with this victim. They can be contacted at (204) 986-6219.
Aaron Jay ROSS, 25, was charged with:
- Robbery x 2
- Utter Threates x 4
- Mischief Under $5,000
He was detained in custody.
