Assault Peace Officer Arrest: C17-270271
Friday, December 2, 2017, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Winnipeg Police officer was attending to his personal vehicle parked near Graham Ave. and Garry St. after completing his shift. Once near the vehicle he saw a male peering through the window into his vehicle. The officer identified himself as a Police Officer and attempted to take hold of the suspect. At this time the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the officer in the arm.
The officer again identified himself as a Police Officer and began to chase the suspect while calling 911 from his cell phone. Responding police units arrested a suspect a short distance away. The injured officer was treated in hospital and released.
Corey Clifford WHITFORD, 45, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possess Weapon
- Escape Lawful Custody
- Fail to Comply Conditions (Undertaking)
- Warrant of Arrest x 5
The accused was detained in custody.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Public Assistance Requested: C17-270297
On December 1, 2017 the Winnipeg Police Service provided information on a Motor Vehicle Collision that had occurred at the intersection of Main St. and Anderson Ave. at approximately 5:55 a.m. A female pedestrian was struck and killed in the incident.
Investigators believe a second pedestrian may have been crossing the street at the time and would like to speak with this individual.
Investigators are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have information regarding the collision contact the Traffic unit at 204-986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Sexual Assault Investigation: C17-269774
On November 30, 2017, Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a sexual assault that had occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m., in the 300 block of Pritchard Ave.
A female resident in her 20's answered a knock at her door. She was confronted by 3 males, one armed with a handgun that entered the residence and sexually assaulted her.
The suspects had disguised their appearance and no descriptions are available. The incident does not appear to be random in nature.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
