Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation: C18-79816
On April 20, 2018, at approximately 5:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a collision involving a single vehicle into a building near the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Weston Street.
The lone male occupant of the vehicle was located deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation has revealed the vehicle was travelling westbound on Notre Dame Avenue when it struck the building and caught fire. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Division. Investigators are looking for possible witnesses to this collision. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Shooting Arrests: C18-77913
On April 18, 2018, at approximately 3:10 a.m. Winnipeg Police responded to the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue for a report of a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound.
The victim, 24, was transported to hospital in unstable condition; however, she has since been upgraded to stable.
The Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and on April 19, 2018, arrested 2 suspects in regards to the shooting.
Joshua Michael COURCHENE, 25, has been charged with:
- Armed Robbery using a Firearm x 2
- Use Firearm during the Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Carry Concealed Weapon x 2
- Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possess Firearm x 2
- Discharge Firearm With Intent
- Fail to Comply Probation
Courchene was detained in custody.
Ryan Frederick JOHNSTON, 28, has been charged with:
- Armed Robbery using a Firearm x 2
- Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
Johnston was detained in custody.
