Unlawfully at Large - Arrest: C18-193371

On September 4, 2018, at approximately 1:40 a.m., general patrol members encountered a stolen vehicle being operated by a male in the area of Chalmers Ave. and Watt St. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver drove over a boulevard and fled at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, officers observed the same stolen vehicle traveling south on Lagimodiere Blvd. near the Perimeter Hwy. Upon seeing police, the driver abruptly turned eastbound crossing all lanes and into a construction site. Officers followed the vehicle through the construction site and onto the Perimeter Hwy. The stolen vehicle made a u-turn, traveling west on the Perimeter Hwy, and back through the construction site, over an unfinished overpass.

The driver of the stolen vehicle continued traveling west on the Perimeter Hwy until crashing into a ditch near McPhillips St. The lone male occupant was removed from the vehicle taken into custody. Officer's located a backpack containing identification and several prescription pads stolen from various locations in Winnipeg and Brandon, Manitoba.

The vehicle had been reported stolen to Selkirk RCMP on September 3, 2018.

Joseph Louis SAVINO, a 32-year-old of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 X7
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Resist Pease Officer

A Canada wide warrant for Suspension of Statutory Release was executed at the time of his arrest. He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
