FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM - WEEK #3 RESULTS
The Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has provided the results from the third week of the Festive Season Check Stop Program. 
 
1398 - Vehicles stopped
37 - Approved Screening Device (ASD) tests administered
12 - 24 hour suspensions issued (ASD Warnings)
10 - Drive Impaired/Over/Refusal Charges
41 - Traffic related Provincial Offence Notices (PON) issued
2 – Arrests - other Criminal Code offences
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST   C13-264035
On December 20, 2013 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a male suspect entered a convenience store located in the 1000 block of Henderson Highway. The suspect concealed his identity and confronted a male employee. Money and merchandise was demanded and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount.
 
On December 24, 2013 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a male suspect entered the same business under similar circumstances and confronted staff. While robbing the business of merchandise, Patrol members arrived on scene and arrested the suspect still inside the store.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation.
 
Adam BAHRY, 25 years-old has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
Robbery x 2
Disguise with Intent x 2
Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
 
He remains in custody.

 

STOLEN VEHICLE – ARRESTS   R13-95840
Sometime on December 24, 2013, a Chevrolet Cavalier was stolen while parked in the 700 block of Alfred Avenue.
 
At approximately 10:50 p.m., patrol members observed the stolen vehicle travelling in a northbound direction on Andrews Street near Flora Avenue. Several Patrol Units attempted to safely stop the stolen vehicle near the intersection of McGregor Street and Royal Crescent. It was at this time the driver of the stolen vehicle collided with the rear end of a police cruiser. The impact caused a secondary collision to occur with another civilian vehicle causing damage to both. There were no injuries.
 
The driver of the stolen vehicle continued westbound on Royal Crescent, eventually losing control and striking a parked vehicle. Minor damage was caused and no one was injured.
 
Again, the suspect attempted to evade police. Officers successfully secured the stolen vehicle and prevented it from proceeding any further.
 
Five occupants were taken into custody and placed under arrest.
 
17 year-old female – Theft of Motor Vehicle, Flight while pursued by Peace Officer, HTA – Drive without a licence, HTA – Drive without driver's liability insurance
 
14 year-old female – Theft of Motor Vehicle
 
13 year-old female – Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
 
14 year-old female - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
 
14 year-old male – Theft of Motor Vehicle
 
The 17 year-old was detained and the others were released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST   C13-264630
On December 25, 2013 at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers responded to a convenience store located in the 800 block of Arlington Street regarding a robbery involving a lone male suspect.
 
The male was armed and attempted to conceal his identity when he confronted staff. Money was demanded and an undisclosed amount was obtained before the suspect fled on a bike.
 
The investigation led officers to a residence located in the 700 block of Simcoe Street. At approximately 6:50 p.m., officers located and arrested the male suspect. A weapon believed to have been used during the robbery was also seized.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation.
 
Walter Guimond, 32 years-old has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
Robbery
Disguise with Intent
Fail to Comply with an Undertaking
 
He remains in custody.
